Are the icons being dropped, then? It's interesting the iPLAYER one isn't on the NFL promo.

Also, are we to assume that the new radio logos come in from Wednesday, too?

Interesting to see the BBC Sport test page in proper 'test mode'.

I would imagine so, I mean it would be weird if there were two logos used, i mean even if BBC News doesn't get rebranded until next year I don't see why it could use the new logo but keep the same graphics.

The new overlay graphics make this ident look nicely framed. The BBC logo is now far more prominent, which was always a major problem.

My mind is forever scarred by the sea swimmers (see unhelpful mock posted above), but as said some of the later ones are at least colourful and more televisual.

This will do for now, I feel, thanks to familiarity.

Shame about oneness, but that’s ok

So maybe makes more sense to promote both as 'watch on iPlayer' because that is the place you can find both.
I think both may premiere on the iPlayer ahead of their late night airing, or at least the expectation is they'll find their audience more On Demand rather than via the linear channels.

Posters have suggested that devolved nations and regions shouldn’t have a say in the ident process, but I think you’ve been done up like a kipper if you think that ‘wee Sandra’ in BBC Scotland is somehow dictating this process!

The evidence I’m seeing here is that senior management is holding too much influence over the final creative process. This is now a common problem - within my current organisation and many, many others. Managers who have the final say should really only ensure that the brand exercise meets the correct standards and follows the original brief. Instead, nowadays, they tend to apply their own subjective views on what ‘looks nice’ to them. The result is delays and half baked implementation.

The relaunch will get there eventually but I feel incredibly sorry for the teams and amazing creative individuals who’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes on this refresh. They must feel like they’ve hand the wind sucked from them, given that the flagship channel won’t really be relaunching. The fact new idents are being filmed regionally will simply add even more pressure and work load and there’s no guarantee that it’ll be signed off further down the line, meaning we could be stuck with those oneness idents for a while.

Sorry to be the negative one, but the optics here aren’t great. It’s a bit of an embarrassment for the BBC and highlights the messy management power struggle going on behind the scenes right now. Anything that delays or impacts the creative process in a creative organisation is NOT a good thing.

Regardless, hopefully it’ll eventually all come together over time and we’ll see a fresh new identity emerge. Someone just needs to lock Auntie’s senior suits in the CBBC broom cupboard for a while and stop listening to them ?
I think you're spot on.

The issue also isn't that part of the process is delayed - nobody really flinched with the news that BBC News won't rebrand for six months and I think it would be surprising if all elements get updated on day one - I think the issue is that it is their most visible branding element that has been affected. Should they have needed to just rebadge the BBC Four idents last minute due to issues with the new ones it wouldn't really matter, but it's a different story with BBC1, especially where what was potentially being replaced is generally agreed to be poor branding for a flagship channel.

Don't like the split logo with BBC at the top and channel number at the bottom seems would work better with just number in middle like BBC two , not live action ident with people in just clutter on screen feel.

Each time other channels tried split logos like itv they soon went back to the old look logo.

BBC twos idents will remain the best no matter what BBC one looks like .
Maybe the look of bbc2 should have been saved for bbc1 and have number 1 big focus back on the number if doing this split logo thing. Simple to the point not these people focused pointless idents .

Idents work best when main focus is the number or logo such as bbc2 or itv now .
Sadly think BBC 1s best looks will remain in the past

I think the only reason there is such a big fuss about Oneness staying a little longer is that (on this forum at least) they are so widely reviled. Had it been the balloons (or even the circles) that were being kept, I don't think anyone here would have batted an eyelid. At the end of the day, as rubbish as they are (IMO anyway) they're just a set of 30-second films that get played before programmes on BBC One. Certainly not a massive deal in the grand scheme of things...

I have a interesting question for Cbeebies. Their logo has been in used since 11 February 2002 for 19 years and remains unchanged, which have same longetivity as BBC Four and is so iconic for a domestic and international brand. Is the Cbeebies ready for an pan-BBC rebrand given that so recognizable "blobs" logo for them?

I used to post on TV Forum. Circles were deemed outdated and looking tired a long time before they were replaced. I think you are incorrect that no one would have batted an eyelid. The difference being, Circles didn't involve people in the way Oneness does, nor was there emphasis on location. They were, by and large, well made idents and were easy to evolve into something fresher if they chose to retain the Circle symbol.

Oneness can't really evolve into something better and they look like they belonged in an era long gone. When a rebrand of this scale happens, to have the main flagship, stuck with a lick of paint and sticky plasters, it really isn't wise. BBC1 is the channel that people automatically recognise with BBC television. To attract new viewers, you need to have an appealing look. How does a slow and often irrelevant clip of a bunch of people doing stuff that most of us have no interest in "sell" the channel? It doesn't.

It's decided Oneness is staying for a bit, we've accepted that. It doesn't mean we have to agree with the reasoning or logic, because the more i think about it, the more i can't comprehend both the reason or logic that are behind the decisions to delay the rebranding of potentially Britain's most watched channel. BBC1 is also, internationally, the channel people used to admire about the BBC. As a mock further upthread demonstrates, they are not admiring it now. The French are taking the mickey out of it. How is that a good situation for the BBC to be in? This whole rebrand has been embarrassing for the BBC because it totally undermines everything the BBC boasts to be good at - quality and professionalism, and is an affront to the talent of the creative people who work there, and of course the hard working everyday staff that are affected by daft management decisions.

Exactly but can I just say that I'm very disappointed that the oneness idents package got too much criticism that it didn't deserve, anyone who criticised them should be absolutely ashamed of themselves, I thought the Oneness package was one of the best that BBC One has ever had.

Just to be clear, I wasn't saying the rebranding was being done in an ideal way.

I was responding to the comment that it was 'all over the shop' which seemed to me to be a comment on the Oneness idents remaining, not on the overall strategy. On that point, I actually don't think it's a huge deal, simply because most people won't give it a second thought.

I think in a less complicated organisation, you would reasonably delay the wider rebrand if one element got held up like this. But doing so in this context would knock so many dates and operations out of whack, I think it's fine to do it a little bit more piece meal. It's a bit messy, it's not how you'd want it, but it's okay.

I just felt the 'all over the shop' comment – in response, as I saw it, to this retention of Oneness – was a bit disproportionate.

When oneness launched, they should have done a complete overhaul of the menu. end board, trailer and presentation package to compliment it. Part of the issue was launching with the two worst idents and using the odd Circles ident to introduce programmes that Oneness wasn't suitable for. it was a rushed mess, it garnered immediate dislike and bias and by the time improvements were made, I agree that later Oneness idents weren't that bad, the impression had been made on launch and people were in no way going to see things any differently. It was a botched launch and a botched refresh of the graphics. The damage was done in the early hours of January 1st 2017.

That's why it was disappointing to learn that another BBC1 refresh is going to be botched too.

I somewhat agree with you. People who criticize Oneness didn't much know about the actual essence of Oneness. It feels have a meaning as "Together as One". Despite that, most of package (particularly the original set of that ident) had already disappointing viewers as "dull".

I don't see why people think the blobs would go because of a new BBC logo - a new BBC logo which is very similar to the old BBC logo and as such could easily be replaced without changing the current logo.

From all the snippets we've had although there has been no glimpse of any CBBC or CBeebies branding at all there has been nothing to suggest they'll be significant changes to either. If it was getting a new logo I think we'd know about it.
