In terms of the Maitlis and Sopel move, interesting to note that their new podcast is produced by Dino Sophos' new production company - the guy who created and exec produced Newscast and Brexitcast, so he probably had a lot to do with their poaching/leaving.
I still the most likely outcome might well be that Sophie Rayworth simply becomes permanent.

You then have to think what on earth Laura Kuenssberg's 'Senior Presenting Role' might be? She's done everything other than World/NC/Network bulletins.

I wonder if Raworth could also be a candidate for lead Newsnight presenter, if she doesn’t keep Sunday mornings permanently? She’s been stuck doing autocue-based newsreading for a long time now and has shown herself capable of more challenging live broadcasting in the Marr slot - Newsnight could be a new challenge for her?
I agree on Victoria Derbyshire likely being a candidate for one of these programmes, too. Intrigued to see where Kuenssberg ends up…

Has she, though? She’s presented relatively little radio, few documentaries, no rolling news or network bulletins… aside from presenting Newsnight once a week for a few years, she’s actually not done much at all. Any of the R4 programmes would be new to her, as would Breakfast, Six/Ten, NC, World News, most of 5 Live, World Service, Sunday Morning BBC1… lots of places for her to end up. The fact that they announced her exiting the Political Editor role before saying where she was going (unlike when Nick Robinson, Andrew Marr, Evan Davis etc. left their roles) makes me wonder if the plan is for her to have a ‘portfolio’ of roles. That could change following recent departures, but would also mirror the way the BBC is going these days.
Another person not to overlook for a role is Simon Jack. He already seems to present today more often than Amol Rajan…

For me Laura would fit best on Newsnight or Today. I've long thought the BBC need a 1999 style shakeup of their BBC1 bulletin presenting line up to tidy things up and keeping Sophie on Sundays could help facilitate that. Personally I'd have Mishal on the Six, Victoria Derbyshire on the 1 with Clive the number 2 for the 6 & 10, ready to step up when Huw moves on.

Seems like a win-win situation, as Jon and Emily have got new roles that they must be pleased with and their departures open up a job on Newsnight and reduces the competition for the Marr slot and Laura's role, perhaps keeping some that will miss out on the roles happier by providing another high profile role.

One name that I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned here is Jo Coburn, another formidable interviewer. A face I could quite clearly see take over the Sunday morning slot, or indeed Newsnight. If she did take on the Marr slot it wouldn't be too dissimilar to Andrew Neil presenting a few episodes of Daily Politics a week and Sunday Politics. I also wouldn't rule her out the Political Editor role either.

Some are now attributing her decision to an instance on the 1st Feb where she was clearly asked (or told) to remove a retweet where a Tory MP criticised the Culture Secretary for her defence of Boris Johnson and did so in a way in which she highlighted the tweet she was being asked to remove.

An example really of the BBC confusing "impartiality" with absolutely no criticism of the government, especially had she simply retweeted statements from the government, even if proven to be untrue, it's unlikely she'd have faced such censorship. I think there is a clear feeling amongst some of the BBC's most experienced journalists that they're not allowed to report and comment as freely as they once were.
