I find the stilted conversations between Mary and Alex a bit cringy. Mary sounds as if she couldn’t really care less that there was sun in Hull when she’s just been talking about death in Ukraine.

It also looks a bit awkward with Mary stuck behind her desk and Alex walking about the place. The jib shot from down below make it look particularly awkward. Would look much better if Mary left her desk to go join Alex to then hand over to him, like Tom did in the studio during the Election.

Also the Weather was shot from an angle again tonight, which is poorly framed for you to be able to see the map completely clearly. There’s some dodgy cheap looking blind transition effects being used too. And the forecast is significantly shorter in length than the forecast at this time used to be which is disappointing. They need to work on this a bit for it to appear to be less awkward and more natural.

Nice to see UTV still captioning Mary as the 'ITN Evening News presenter'...!

It's amusing that London was the only region not to do an interview with Mary.

Well half the interview was based around how there would be more news from the nations and regions, and how they’ve invested in more resources in those areas, so it isn’t London centric. I’m not sure how she would have sold that in London.

Not quite all of them. Lookaround had a separate interview to Tyne Tees. And quite an interesting ITV News graphic that STV News used on their screen. More teal in colour, it looks quite nice actually!

She must have been bored doing all those near identical interviews with the same questions each time

You could tell the Channel one was a struggle to find something to say as there is clearly unlikely to be any additional news from the Channel Islands on the national news, unless something very unusual happened.

Interesting some regions made out the interview was live, most said they’d spoken to her earlier, but Tyne Tees gave the game away by saying they’d spoken to her ‘last week’

It's no different to actors on press junkets where they are asked variations of the same questions.

It'll take a while for Mary and Alex to gel, I suppose unlike regional news and even GMB, it's difficult to do banter on the national news.

So how does it work with itv weather now? Does the lunchtime forecaster come back after news at 10, or does Alex do another forecast or three separate forecasters?

ITV News: March 2022 onwards - tomo359 - 09-03-2022

During Mondays show, I think Mary said to Alex "nice to meet you" or something similar. I don't know too much about all this but I'm assuming the weather is normally ITV whereas the news is ITN so technically are they separate?
I still thought the teams would have all known each other though, but it felt like it was the first time they've ever even met.

Paul Brand will be Julie Etchingham’s replacement on the Tonight programme

That feels like a "hands off BBC" move.

ITV News: March 2022 onwards - XIII - 09-03-2022

Paul is ITV News’ best asset at the moment so it’s no surprise he’s getting more opportunities. I assume he’ll do more than the outside intro

Strange background behind Emma today, looks a bit like green screen to me, but she looks like she's about 2ft tall and standing on boxes

I do think Charlene and Lucrezia will be better at interacting with Alex or whoever is weather presenter when they cover for Mary as they already do that on ITV London with Sally on a regular basis.
