Surely not? They have more than one studio at Wogan House, surely they can rebrand one while another is on air without needing a decamp to another building?

They may take the opportunity to change the branding while the studios are off air for other maintenance of course.

I'm with you on that one, Steve. Fishy reason. Given that Sir Ken broadcast his show from Bruce Towers in leafy Oxfordshire for a year during covid, then they could have just re-established the high speed internet connection, and he could have done the show from there.

The VoIP system BBC Radio have would allow that - or indeed any BBC radio studio.

A quick decamp to the Peel wing, and a spare Radio One studio, sounds like a last minute technical switch - as I suspect studio cleaning for Covid cleaning is still in action which meant there was no spare studio for the first part of his programme - rather than moving the old lad for the flimsy reason of changing the corporate and station logos in the studio.

Well, Greg James was talking about Ken Bruce doing his show from Radio 1 yesterday and Zoe Ball shared on her Instagram Stories she was using Radio 1 on Wednesday. The studio was lit in R2 colours.

I’m sure there was mention earlier in this thread about a Radio 2 studio getting a refit too.

A new trail for The NFL Show/NFL This Week with the new branding was broadcast during halftime of the iPlayer/Red Button FA Cup game today (around 13:22 if the game is still live).

The first screen capture shows the new blocks to be fine, but not sold with the size of the blocks on the second cap. Still I await to see how it looks from Wednesday.

Apologies, couldn't get the audio to record.

Here’s the video (PATV beat me to it, but might as well leave this as it’s got the sound)…

A couple of things that strike me…

First, there’s no sign of the new iPlayer icon. Has this been dropped?

Second, really not a fan of the endboard format with the programme title left aligned and the BBC blocks centre aligned.

I do like the way the blocks animate though. And the increased prominence of the BBC brand is a good move.

[Edit: the current iPlayer logo at the beginning is from the end of the previous trailer in case anyone’s wondering - my fat fingers couldn’t trim the beginning on my iPhone properly.]

Very subtle direction this is going in, in a good way! Smile

A bit difficult to tell what's new style trail and what's specific to that particular trail but that looks good. The animation is a lot better than I thought.

Interesting that the iPlayer brand is appearing without the BBC logo

I agree, that does look quite nice. I don't mind the text being on the left and the BBC logo in the centre.

I don't know if it's just me, or just a random Mandela effect going on, but have they increased the size of the BBC letters?

I actually don't hate it. The fact it moves so elegantly and slick is something the BBC desperately needed, and I don't necessarily mind the text being on the left, I don't think it would've worked centre piece though, as though to put the BBC brand in centre rather than it's programming.

I don't think so, it may just be that the logo is taking up a lot of the screen/frame, and thus may make the letters look bigger.

I really like the motion and animation in this trailer, feels more modern and more relevant to the target audiences. I think the BBC need to watch out on the speed of the text animation though so that people can read this, feels a little too fast to digest at the moment.

Re image quoted - It feels odd that this part of the trailer doesn't feature a service/channel logo, to me the slide is lacking something key such as the iPlayer icon or name.

Personally I've never liked the "watch on iPlayer" on a black background animation as I presume everything is on iPlayer these days and the creative is not great - wish the BBC would get rid of that.

Possibly no, I assume the new iPlayer icon will be used on some platforms (for example, online services)

Please don't tell me that the centred BBC logo and the programme details on the left of the screen on that trailer endboard is going to be the new "house style" going forwards?

Awful.

Well it's much better than having the 1997 logo that looks out of touch with reith graphics.

We'll have to agree to disagree - that centred BBC logo with the programme title to the left looks terrible to me - a great deal more than current blending of the Gill Sans 1997 BBC logo with the Reith font on screen, which is barely noticeable for your average viewer. Whereas glaringly badly laid-out text very much is.

I can already tell Wednesday is going to be one huge disappointment / anti-climax, even without any new BBC One idents.
