Just bonkers. I could understand "Royal protocol" at any other time, but on a Friday night with nobody allowed to go out for many, already throughly depressed by the trials of the past year or so, the television will be their only company. The logical thing to do would have been to show the football on BBC Four, and then fit EastEnders, MasterChef and Norton, maybe HIGNFY or even Gardener's World, around that.
Radio 1 and 1Xtra taking Radio 4 was equally baffling - whilst 2,3,4,5L & Local joined for Diana, even then R1 did its own thing, famously playing a Cafe Ibiza type playlist. Newsbeat should have been providing a more on-brand perspective for the target audience, maybe focusing on stuff like the DoE awards, which much of their target audience would have taken part in, or be currently doing.
I'm afraid I have to say that the BBC have seriously mis-read the room on this occasion. Yes, he's a Cat A OBIT, but this is no Diana nor Monarch. When the Queen goes there's a huge follow-on story as Charles takes over, but 99 year old man has died after being poorly for some time. After so long there isn't much you can add.

Back on the radio, BBC Radios 1/1xtra/Asian Network are still putting out Newsbeat bulletins hourly, on the half-hour (which they obviously wouldn't do on a normal Friday night). Chilled dance music from Danny Howard the rest of the time, which is actually quite relaxing, with the caveat "if this isn't your vibe, there's a host of options available on BBC Sounds".
Really not sure why people are complaining, the BBC's given people more options than ever to access their content.

Yep. It's totally unnecessary.
I think they've gone too over the top. Majority of the public won't want to sit through it all. Well guaranteed good ratings for C4 and Sky tonight!
