The Sport Thread - bkman1990 - 12-08-2021 The UEFA Champions League Intro has been given a refresh for this new rights cycle. Here's 2 versions of it for you to watch right here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIR2s5So81A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1egJYPjRhU The Sport Thread - nlondeix - 12-08-2021 bkman1990 post_id=33902 time=1628779764 user_id=922 Wrote:The UEFA Champions League Intro has been given a refresh for this new rights cycle. So which is the "official" version? The second one seems to use the 2006-2012 cut of the theme (which, in my opinion, is better that the one used afterwards which has an abrupt edit in the middle). The Sport Thread - Rdd - 12-08-2021 I had to watch it and the previous one to play what’s the difference, they are very similar. Then again, I don’t think UEFA have done anything radical with the Champions League intro for about 15 years…just the same basic stadium idea over and over again. I can't see much that they can do to improve on the previous graphics, given that they were a nice evolution from the 2015-18 graphics package The Sport Thread - jlmiller - 12-08-2021 Several newspapers are reporting that BT Sport are set to gain the rights to the Ashes Tests: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/cricket/btsport-skysports-ashes-england-australia-24745611 The Sport Thread - Tom - 13-08-2021 jlmiller post_id=33993 time= user_id=730 Wrote:Several newspapers are reporting that BT Sport are set to gain the rights to the Ashes Tests: That would not be a surprise as BT had the rights to the last Ashes series in Australia in 2017/2018. Even the first post of this thread is about Discovery potentially bidding for these rights. So it would be a pretty big deal for BT to retain them, with the usual caveats that Covid might make things a little less straightforward than usual. The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 13-08-2021 Was there a FTA highlights contract last time or not? The Sport Thread - Jon - 13-08-2021 Should we be expecting a new virtual set design for the football programmes? The desk arrangement for the Euros is certainly something that would look better for Final Score. Would make sense for the new style BBC Sport desk to appear, at least. Although it would be a shame to lose the virtual stadium for something more generic. The Sport Thread - BcastCornwall - 13-08-2021 Well the New Look Bundesliga Score indicator won't last long. Too much screen estate taken up. Meanwhile the commentary is the international feed, this deal is being done with minimal effort sadly. I would say the new programme logos indicate a rebrand, updated BBC Sport stadium or something like the Olympics but Football themed The Sport Thread - Jon - 13-08-2021 BcastCornwall post_id=34150 time= user_id=950 Wrote:Well the New Look Bundesliga Score indicator won't last long. I think it’s quite nice and good to see them try something different. The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 13-08-2021 Just hope it lasts long enough for a team to score 10. The Sport Thread - Rdd - 14-08-2021 Sky Sports News seems to have new music and a new TOTH sequence. Or is it just for Good Morning Sports Fans? Edit: Just a bespoke look for Good Morning Sports Fans it seems The Sport Thread - madmusician - 14-08-2021 Brekkie post_id=34117 time= user_id=976 Wrote:Was there a FTA highlights contract last time or not? No, there wasn’t. It was reported that the rights for 2016-2021 were sold by Cricket Australia in the summer of 2015 in two packages: pay and FTA. The FTA package, I believe, contained a handful of Big Bash matches and FTA highlights of the test matches (for all Australia home tests). BT bid for and won both of these packages. They fulfilled their FTA obligations (the extent of these was never really made public) in a rather patchy manner! In the first season that they had the rights, they subcontracted the FTA Big Bash matches to Channel 5, but that only lasted for that first season and thereafter BT showed a few live Big Bash matches for free on their YouTube channel. As for the FTA test highlights, apparently they showed some highlights programmes on their BT Showcase Freeview channel but these were not scheduled (there was no EPG) or advertised in any way, and this went by the wayside well before their deal ended. For the 2017-18 Ashes, the ‘free’ offering was a c.8 minute long highlights edit on the BT website, and various clips on YouTube. It was the first away Ashes series since 1994-5 that did not have proper FTA highlights edits shown (either by the BBC, Channel 4, ITV or the Sky highlights programme shown on Pick TV). Given that the market has changed somewhat since then, I do wonder if BT might be more willing to sublicense highlights this time around (assuming the reports that they have won these rights are correct), given that they would probably be interested in bringing revenue in in any possible way! |
