The arrival of Now on Two in October 1987 was one of the first moves towards BBC Two becoming a legitimate outlet for CBBC programmes since Play School, but only in the Autumn, the lunchtime See-Saw strand for pre-schoolers had already moved to BBC Two the previous summer.
Even so, the Play School (later Playbus/Playdays) omnibus were still being shown on BBC One on Sunday mornings, even in the autumn until October 1989, when all CBBC programmes on Sunday mornings moved there during the late Autumn/early Winter season under the rebranded Children's BBC Two.
A further development came in 1993, when CBBC programmes outside the Autumn term were split between BBC One and Two, (Rugrats premiered in Britain on BBC Two in April '93), and remained that way until October 2001, shortly after the temporary refresh. It also helped that the birthday mornings slots moved to BBC Two in September 1994, after CBBC moved to TC8, (maybe to commemorate the channel's 30th anniversary and a homage to Play School being the channel's first programme?)
When CBeebies arrived in 2002, it was strangely absent for most of it's year in the Sunday mornings slot on BBC Two, until Easter Sunday 2003 when it became a regular feature, it was also before CBBC on One/Two became known as CBBC ONE/TWO again.
Interestingly there was one occasion when CBBC was technically going out on both BBC one and Two at the same time on the bank holiday in 2000 when Music live was on with a special live and Kicking on BBC one and some CBBC pre school shows on Two. Two years later for the Queens jubilee we had the only time CBBC had the afternoon slot on a bank holiday Monday with a special CBBC jubilee party with Blue Peter mostly been the show but with regular Newsround updates and Reggie Yates presenting some bits what I think was reading email and texts from the blue Peter garden and Fearne Cotton I think outside Buckingham palace.
I think 1996 was the first time CBBC afternoon was moved to BBC Two for the entire summer due to Wimbledon Euro 96 the Olympics and I think some test cricket. However two year later it was back to back to been on one all year round and fitting into the BBC schedule where it could which often meant sometimes been 35 minutes to fit in blue Peter and Newsround. It only started to move to BBC Two in 2001 where Wimbledon ran till 6 and was given the slot till 6 on Two usually with simpsons at 5:35 with neighbours off for the two weeks. That pretty much continued until 2012 the final year the CBBC afternoon slot ending that December.

I see that POV, but again, I don't think it suited a (then) children's block. The surrounding identity is good.

Yeah, 2002 was a very strange year in regards to scheduling. For Christmas 2003 and 2004, CBeebies was on BBC Two for two weeks straight, even on Saturday mornings when it was still on BBC One until December 2005, while CBBC was split between BBC One and Two.
Also, in late April 2003, after returning to weekend mornings, CBeebies on BBC Two on weekdays was extended to an extra half hour before the CBBC TWO Breakfast Show at 7am, which I believe was when it started being called CBBC ONE/TWO again, (why they changed it in the first place I'll never know), this was also before CBeebies had a slight refresh in May 2003.
In October 2003, this was extended to a full hour and remained so until April 2004, which at that point, the weekend slots got extended to a full hour too, but this returned in 2007. The CBBC Breakfast Show was extended to two hours on weekday mornings until September 2005, when the extra hour was replaced with... Pages from Ceefax.
I remember being very annoyed when they were showing Ceefax from 6 till CBBC started at 7 when I was 5 years old, because I had school then, glad they sorted it out later on. ?

The breakfast show was always odd and not sure it ever know what it was supposed to be if it was a repeat of some programs from day before or been a place to catch classic shows. The most bizarre scheduling was having a repeat run of the animals of farthing wood at 6 AM in 2004. I always thought it would have just been better to simulcast X Change with the CBBC channel from 2002 especially when the CBBC channel at that time would still have had a very minor audience with most houses still only having basic Terrestrial.

I think CBBC longest running cartoon Arthur ends next year am sure I read that somewhere. I mean I was 10 when it started and am in my mid 30s now so shows how long it been going was never a fan of it.

The best cartoon CBBC had was rugrats but for some reason they could only share it on CBBC one or Two and not the channel yet am sure mona the vampire was shown on the channel despite both been brought on from Nickelodeon could never understand that. The cramp twins another cartoon that could be shown on the channel which was a strange cartoon.
One interesting fact I think Dick n Dom are the only presenters to have presented the CBBC links though 5 different ears. They did the last few years when it was officially Children’s BBC then the yellow studio 9 era then left but came back when it relaunched in 2002. I think they did cover in both the green screen and green office eras and finally they presented their own special night to mark 20 years of them been presenters in the current HQ era. They have certainly done well for themselves.

When I say I only remember Woody Woodpecker, I mean during the CBBC TWO Breakfast Show, I definitely remember Arthur when they repeated the older episodes until a few years ago. As for Rugrats, I remember it more when it moved to CITV in 2005, and it's spin-off, All Grown Up.

I wonder if CBBC especially might introduce new idents next year, the current ones will have been going for 6 years next March, and are quite samey now.
I don’t think the CBeebies logo will ever change, but they will introduce new idents ever so often. They hardly ever use the ones where the bugs are floating about on a plain coloured background anymore.

Crazy thought: do you reckon CBeebies on BBC Two could make a comeback? When you think about it, CBeebies was mainly in the birthday mornings slot on Two since it's launch in 2002.
Also, Milkshake! on Channel 5 is still very popular with pre-schoolers, and since CBeebies arguably has the better brand recognition for that age group, it doesn't seem like a bad idea really.

I always thought it was a mistake getting rid of the CBBC and CBeebies blocks especially on BBC one as in my view One should have every type of program on there including kids shows. CBBC Two has sort of returned without the branding early on a Saturday Morning so it is possible CBeebies could return. Considering BBC Two has nothing much else on a morning simulcasting CBeebies for a few hours between 6 - 8:30 won’t do any harm. I think a Sunday morning CBBC showcase on Two would not be a bad idea between 8:30 - 11:30 on a Sunday morning either and simulcasting Saturday mash up again would also be quite easy. The BBC management at the moment though don’t seem to know what to do.

Absolutely, IMO BBC Two should be treated like Sky Showcase; a shop-window for all the flagship BBC channels, like how CBBC ONE/TWO became that after the CBBC Channel launched.
Beats all the boring B&W films they show at weekends on BBC Two, eh? ?

I might be in my 30s but I think having Blue Peter Jamie Johnson and Newsround on a afternoon was a lot better than the 400th repeat of Antiquities Roadtrip especially when bargain hunt and flog it still get shown most days of the year as well.
