I enjoyed it. It was a good half an hour of comedy & there's not enough of those on TV at the moment. I do think the slot hasn't helped the ratings.. how does HIGNFY do regular? Would something like this be better suited to BBC Two...

One of the lines was a kind of call to action for the TV (Live) Forum community:

I started watching on iPlayer yesterday, and found it a bit tedious and not quite holding my attention. Then I realised that it had served up an episode from series 1. Tried the first episode of series 2 instead and enjoyed it a lot more.

Don't know why they brought back the one thing from series 1 that really is just the same joke every time - the down-the-line reporter who always disagrees with Alan but always agrees with Jennie.

I thought the interview showed how important the role of Jennie Gresham is as a professional presenter who can't stand Alan and his old school ways, but continues to deliver as if she's Alex Jones.
Susannah Fielding did mention that she watched The One Show for prep, where there are similarities in her delivery as Jennie with Alex Jones, but is still able to provide subliminal humour with that. Even if it's just sitting away from Alan playing on her phone between links.
As an aside, although it's obvious to us that they recorded series 2 during lockdown, if it wasn't for the audience socially distancing, there isn't much obvious difference to series 1 filmed pre-pandemic.

I am a big AP fan, I loved From the Oasthouse most recently. I like This Time, although I do think there's something about it that doesn't fully land.
I do however think that people view older stuff in a bit of a rose-tinted way. As much as older AP stuff has been great, we weren't all necessarily guffawing at every line in the past.

1.6 million for a prime time Friday slot on BBC One is truly appalling. Even in his era of overnight audience ratings being a thing of the past, 1.6 million just looks very very bad indeed for a comedy.
Up against Googlebox on Channel 4 and a It'l Be Alright On The Night edition on ITV - oh dear, I wonder if this series will tank just as bad as Gordon Ramsay's game show did?
Sad, as I used to love watching Alan Patridge on The Day Today and Knowing Me, Knowing You back in 1994, and even the first series of I'm Alan Partridge in 1997 was decent. I do feel thought the 2002 return of Alan saw a change in the character, which started a decline in the performance of Steve Coogan.

He's a niche character and the set up and execution of This Time appeals to an especially niche audience.
It would probably rate similarly on BBC2, where such ratings would be considered respectable. More indefinitely available content for the iPlayer too.
Agree with others - the series certainly has its moments (hand washing segment springs to mind), but the fact I've yet to catch up despite being a fan probably says something. It's on my list, but not appointment to view.

I rather enjoyed the show and have caught up with it on iPlayer (as I suspect a lot of the eventual total audience will). It’ll be interesting to see how the series develops - there’s clearly a new producer in town and new management is a theme that has caught Alan out in the past (“smell my cheese!”). Good to see some of the ensemble character actors being used again (I’m actually very fond of that). I found it much better than Series 1 and I did genuinely laugh out loud.

I think tonight’s show was the best yet. It felt like a proper Partridge episode. The on-air and off-air stuff was all brilliant.
Also the explanation of the formation of ITV plc will be appreciated by most on here.
