BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Josh - 14-12-2021

Crashed into The One Show quite badly. On network, they welcomed Scotland viewers and recapped the show lineup but viewers on Scotland only managed to catch the tail end of the recap.

Is it just me that thinks that'd be a better ident to introduce the Covid PIFs (particularly if Oneness returns after Christmas)?

Having said that - what even is the need in giving them their own ident?

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Brekkie - 14-12-2021

Yes, or even just the generic BBC logo version we saw before. I don't really think they need introducing, or certainly not an announcement before and after each one. I get they try and seperate it from BBC presentation but a blip would do that just as effectively, and frankly running them into the next ident arguably puts them closer to the content than if they at least put a trailer between them and the ident into the next programme.

"We're off Bargain Hunting next on BBC One, after a public Information film from the UK government"
Then, PIF and immediately after, Bargain Hunt. Could that work?

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Brekkie - 15-12-2021

That is literally the opposite of what I'm saying. Makes it look like Bargain Hunt is sponsored by covid.

How often a day do the BBC show these - as you hint at just before Bargain Hunt is a regular point.

To be fair, there’s a need for a clear distinction between what is - and what is not - BBC content.

It’s a bit like PPBs. They clearly advocate a position which, if not introduced correctly could give the impression of a BBC position.

I take the point that for a 30second VT it can feel a little OTT but just imagine if it was on a radio — the ident and announcer help distinguish that this is indeed something not from Auntie

When PIFs were a common sight on the BBC they would generally just pop up as if it were a trailer, and be back announced by the duty CA "that was a Public Information Film".

However there's always an exception to the rule:

Well the interesting thing there is they ran a documentary series in the 70s on BBC1 on how the news was made. I suspect that might be an interesting, though probably rather dry, watch.

I'm not sure if it's because it came straight from a programme, but the one aired on BBC One Scotland the other day faded in from black.

Talking about the PIFs on BBC1… Why are they usually played before closedown?

A lot of them were about preventing houses being burgled/burnt down while occupants were asleep, I guess

All the BBC Sport graphics are still using it.
