He was over here picking up all his awards from the RTS Journalism Awards earlier this week.

Forgot he was here for the RTSs.

Watching the morning bulletin back as they streamed it on Twitter - noticed the astons were playing up again - here the 'ITV News' part was on screen for more than a minute after the rest had gone.

How long have these people been going to Westminster?

Does anyone know if with the new one hour Evening News schedule to start next week, are there any indications that we will be getting any kind of refresh, tweak or update to the current ITV News presentation?

The current look has been in place now for nine years, which I am sure is now the longest running time for a set of ITV News presentation, is this correct?

I would have thought, given the new one hour format, this is the time for even a slight refresh, as the 2013 look is still fairly impressive to this day. Thanks.

There were suggestions they'd be an evolution rather than a revolution but I suspect even if changes were planned they're unlikely to go ahead with them during a major news story so I suspect any branding changes will follow a few months later now.

Worth remembering too when they made changes to News at Ten the presenter and editorial changes came a couple of months ahead of the visual changes.

And away from the pres, I was wondering if there were going to be any new features or items, or strands with a name that would help fill the full hour. Obviously with the current situation I’m guessing it’ll just be an hour of news now.

And the BBC extending the Six for a hour across the top of the Evening News will mean the new hour will no doubt rate lower in any case, so no point relaunching and getting bad press as a result,

One of the benefits ITV News do have is their use of their green screen studio for their national news, which means unlike BBC News for example, a refresh or new look would not mean they have to be kicked out of their studio, for any new set to be installed. With green screen virtual sets, it is all on the computer, and I assume easy to install, whenever a refresh takes place.

That completely depends on what your change involves. If a simple refresh of the background imagery, then that’s probably fairly straightforward, but if you are changing the presentation points, places where guests sit, physical furniture and so on then it could be a little more tricky, with quite a bit of studio work to be done to realign lighting rigs and camera positions etc, which might require a fair bit of studio downtime and rehearsal.

Exactly. And in the old adage of what is old becoming new again I wonder if we might see a return to more standing presentation so it isn't just an hour of Mary sat at the desk. Would be good if taking inspiration from the BBC Olympic sets if they could do parts away from the desk - perhaps within the "atrium" for example

Also a bit of a shame really the changes don't involve bringing in a co-host for Mary as that would help the extension to an hour really. Indeed overall ITV are keeping promotion of the changes both to the news and the schedule very low key really.

Watching a brief segment of Julie Etchingham presenting the special program on Ukraine the other evening, I do think they’ve missed a real opportunity by not having a Mary/Julie combo - what a real powerhouse that would be.

Great to see Romilly Weeks anchoring the Evening News, as much underused in my opinion. Meanwhile, I wonder if the new Evening News will take on a more conversational approach like News at Ten.

I have become more of an ITV News viewer now, and I do like their output recently, especially their coverage of Ukraine crisis. I used to be more of a BBC News viewer, but I have shifted to ITV News since Christmas 2021, and I hope their new one hour programme from next week will be good.

ITN as it was back in the 70s, 80s and 90s was the first choice in my parents household because of the quality of the reporting, especially on News at Ten. In recent months, ITV News has found it's mojo back first with the reporting of Partygate and now the Ukraine invasion.
