I think it makes sense, it's not really that intrusive, and not many children watching Cbeebies will really understand or care. It's for the parents who might see it and not have known in other ways. If it was some war or other massive news issue, then if it wasn't there I'm sure people would complain.

As I was browsing a Reach PLC website at the time (Bristol Live, i.e. the online version of the Bristol Post newspaper), it was presumably a Daily Express article.
