Last week Clive was genuinely adding to the BBC 1 bulletins by anchoring live from Kyiv. What is being added by Reeta (or anyone) anchoring from Lviv? I get the feeling Reeta has been sent there just so the BBC are not left out, by having part of their bulletins anchored 'on location'.
I know this might be an unpopular opinion here, but I really don't get what having a presenter standing in darkness reading the autocue adds to a bulletin, just for the sake of showing viewers you have someone there 'on location'.
Of course go to your reporters and correspondents on location for expert analysis, such as from Lyse Doucet and Jeremy Bowen, but those two-ways can be anchored from the studio.

It’s a totally legitimate question. In the case of Clive, as when he covered the NZ shootings - he files many compelling reports as well as anchoring. When he was sent to Ukraine he didn’t file until a few days in. I’m sure with Reeta’s experience I’m the field she’ll be filing reports too. In this case it does add to the bulletin but I’m inclined to agree that just sending someone to anchor from somewhere for the sake of nothing is pointless. ITV News haven’t.
CNN exist for things like this. Sending anchors everywhere at then drop of a hat.

Reeta's reporting experience is very different to Clive's though. To be honest I find her style quite comparable to Moira Stewart - very much newsreader rather than reporter on the ground. However very few could follow in Clive's footsteps after his excellence over the last week or so.

I mean, without sound pedantic - It Is the World’s Newsroom. It’s always going to be busy. They clearly chose that spot for OS for that very reason.

Yes I know they are in the newsroom, it sounds worse tonight. You can hear the lift too. Also do they need to be in that spot, a studio would be better for sound quality, it’s a fixed camera so you can’t really tell the difference.

I do wonder whether President Zelinsky‘s address tomorrow will mean that BBC One/ITV etc will interrupt normal programming, or not. It’s a possibility, but of course it comes down to the editor.

I highly doubt ITV will and I don't think the BBC will either - these things inevitably get delayed (I'm quite surprised they've given a time as it is) and it's something the news channel and BBC Parliament will be covering live whilst for the main audience wrapping it up in a report for the 6pm news is probably the better way of covering it.

Have any of the major U.S. news networks reported about Putin's health at this time. I have seen some things about his apparent mental state on CNN a few days ago. However it's been reported by recent sources in The Pentagon that Putin is suffering from terminal bowel cancer. It's been talked about as the main reason why that he is doing of the social distancing while he's inside the Kremlin.

Yes that is the point of the location to give effect of being in the newsroom directly one would imagine. I don’t know if I have ever heard the lift before though, were you listening via headphones by any chance?
I don’t think Putin is ill, there is no apparent weight loss and he looks normal as before last five years. The reason for the long tables is to prevent assassins. Many have claimed two years of isolation have caused him to become disconnected from reality and paranoid to a higher level. Certainly seems to be possible and not just with him…..

That said, I believe previous addresses by foreign leaders have been in Westminster Hall - I can't think of any precedent for someone who's not an MP speaking on the floor of (or virtually to) the Commons.
