Yes it’s a reboot of the Channel 4 show made by Initial (Banijay).

In regards to The Games being partly prerecorded, I assume it's being done for logistical reasons. The three events being recorded are the canoe slalom, diving and track and field. I know Brekkie mentions sports is usually live but keep in mind the people involved in The Games aren't trained athletes especially when it comes to something like canoe slalom or diving.

I'm surprised C4 or now C5 haven't really tried to launch their own equivalent of Quizzy Mondays with a block of higher brow quizzes once a week. Looks like C5 are targeting that 6pm hour though once Neighbours and 15 to 1 contrasts quite nicely with House of Games.

Yes, this was one of the reasons why The Jump started pre-recording some of their episodes, it allows for more time between events so that they could train more in an attempt to try and curb the sheer amount of injuries and withdrawals. I bet health and safety has changed substantially since the first iteration of The Games, and possibly even in the five years since the last series of The Jump so chances are they'd wouldn't be able to do a full nightly live strip under the old format again.

However it could be argued its moot rooting for somebody if you know little more than "I'm Fred from Wolverhampton and I work in a chip shop. I'm Velma from Bristol and I work for the local council. I'm Daphne from Scarborough and I have my own hairdressing business".

Whereas if you find out Fred wants the money to take his offspring born during the pandemic to the beach because he lost his job and can't afford to go down there, then he's slightly more interesting. Ultimately yes we don't give a monkeys who wins (or doesn't win as the case may be) but its still interesting to some.

It'd be hard to find quizzes that are high brow though, Only Connect is the only one that broke through to the mainstream in the last decade, BBC Four used to have a lot of quizzes which were 1-2 series wonders.

Hard Quiz is great fun to watch and honestly a UK version would pair really well with House of Games at 1830. I do think you would need to find the equivalent of Tom Gleeson over here although there's a few comedians and one non comedian who would work quite work well in that role.

Jeopardy! with Richard Madeley? Anyone?

This is… interesting. Celebrity Lingo commissioned but it will be hosted by RuPaul (Adil will host a new series of the normal version).

Suppose you could argue C4 tried with Jon Snow's Very Hard Questions, which flopped.

Is the plan to air this in both the UK and US, hence using the US host?

No it's a UK only version.

RE: The Game Show Thread - Brekkie - 02-05-2022

A baffling call. I think Lingo will struggle in primetime as it is and maybe this is the attempt to glam it up a bit but I think they're over estimating Ru Paul's star appeal here. What is it with ITV seemingly not wanting to give Adil Ray jobs he is probably the obvious, if not most glamourous, choice for.

They've also commissioned Queen of the Night - which is basically Celebrity Drag Race, and we all know how well the ITV knock-offs of other channels reality formats usually end up.

I had GMB on this morning and Richard mentioned that he'd been watching episodes of the US version of Jeopardy recently, so I guess that kind of firms up these rumours.

RE: The Game Show Thread - XIII - 04-05-2022

I wonder if they'll adapt the winner stays on on Jeopardy because it'd be tricky for people to stay on the show for weeks on end. Perhaps someone could do 5 shows then bow out.

RE: The Game Show Thread - JAS84 - 04-05-2022

That's how it was originally on the US show, there was a limit to how many episodes you could stay on for. Countdown has a similar system, 8 wins (which they call Octochamp) and you're done.
