New BBC channel logos in action - Brekkie - 13-10-2021 I've alot of respect for Clean Feed and don't doubt they have sources from elsewhere, although quotes from here clearly drive the article. Two things of note though. Firstly the headline "Stay of execution for Oneness idents?" is a question, not a statement, just like the weekly TV mag covers asking if a certain soap character is "dead?". Secondly they themselves state it is an assumption, not a fact. Quote:So what’s likely to happen on 20th October on BBC One? I think you can read that and read the comments from verified users here and draw your own conclusions. Common sense dictates what we'll see on screen this time next week. Maybe there's just undergoing further tweaks/editing before they're officially "good to go"?? Perhaps, but it beggars the question as to why they would go to the trouble of creating idents, producing them, editing them and then go to the trouble of putting the new branding onto them and have clearly been working on them for a considerable time only to then change their minds, use the oneness set but remove the oneness elements so they're left with no identity at all other than a mix of old and new with no solid meaning and then to later introduce the new idents when the initial impact of introducing a new identity has been lost, is utterly bonkers, and is something the once professional BBC would never have done! Surely, whenever (if) the BBC decide to use the new idents, is when the full rebrand of all channels should have taken place. This just further confirms to me that decision making within the BBC is non-sensical. It's also quite funny! It reminds me of a parish council meeting in Dibley. New BBC channel logos in action - Axolotl - 13-10-2021 Frankly I think a lot of people here are getting worked up over nothing – whoever runs Clean Feed seems to have written an article based almost entirely on speculation, and then proceeded to quote their own article as evidence that they are correct. Our resident BBC insiders haven't confirmed or denied that BBC1's new idents have been delayed (and nor should they – we should be grateful for their willingness to give us some hints about the rebrand in the first place, especially before any official announcements have been made), so I really think we should just wait and see what happens next week . If Oneness remains for the time being then so be it – we will have plenty of new idents and graphics on the other channels to keep us occupied, and sooner or later BBC1's new look will emerge to join them. Anyway – I don't think I've contributed to this thread yet, and not to the topic since the first rumours of a rebrand were spreading, so I'll throw my two cents in. I've warmed somewhat to the new logo – it's not as refined and elegant as Lambie-Nairn's creation, but I think it works far better than the current logo when it comes to animation and it's ability to fit in with other graphic elements. In 1997, a primary function of the logo was to look good on letterheads and in static usage on things like endboards. However, these uses are less relevant compared to the need for a logo to work well in online situations, which require fluidity and versatility with regards to colour and so on. As for the new channel concepts, I must say I'm glad that the BBC have decided to have a consistent theme once more for all of their main channels, with the use of gradients, shapes, and uppercase Reith Sans logos. I'm not so convinced about the separation of the logo and the channel name, but apart from that I'm really positive about the rebrand, and the fresh and modern feel that I hope it will bring. I think everyone who's ever worked as a creative knows that you can pour your heart and soul into a project - it be OK'd by two or three levels of management and then present it to an Executive to final sign off and then the whole thing is shelved. It happens *A LOT*. As design is subjective, a lot of people think that they 'can do it better themselves' [draws hand elegantly towards this forum, also the management at GB News]. Opinions are everything in the creative space...and you can't rank opinions, other than by how much money and influence the opinion giver has. But Clean Feed are saying on Twitter: Quote: Barring a BBC u-turn, you won't be seeing new BBC One idents next Wednesday. Hopefully that's clear enough! Nobody on here has said that for sure. So unless they have information from somewhere else, they’re making it up! Maybe there's just undergoing further tweaks/editing before they're officially "good to go"?? The most baffling thing for me is that while of course, none of us have seen these new idents other than a few who are meant to have done, and the Great British public have no idea or care that they are even being considered, the same executives for reasons known only to themselves, seem to prefer the blandness and the dullness of the Oneness idents. That's why I truly believe that if the idents are being shelved (or tweaked or re-shot) or whatever, delaying the entire rebrand until they are good to go or something better is ready, would be better than just sticking new branding on old rubbish. I will add though, that if the trail and endboard graphics are improved by the rebrand, then that is a bonus. The Daily Mail however, is already calling BBC1 an "ailing" channel in its coverage of BBC One Winter highlights. Probs the former? Whether or not this transpires... I like this! Sounds a bit like the last set of BBC HD idents. New BBC channel logos in action - Argyess - 13-10-2021 To be fair to Clean Feed, there really wouldn't be anything to be gained by them posting incorrect information or speculation. For their statement to be posted in this manner, they've surely had confirmation about the delay from someone "in the know" who works for the BBC. New BBC channel logos in action - AxiosBrit67 - 13-10-2021 Bbc Two curve set ident in the wake of the BBC rebranding is more interesting because it is the best BBC idents package i ever seen. I believe, they will adding some of new idents that are completed their production and using them with old ones, much like in 1997. For me, it sounds an alternative good idea for BBC One to launch some of new idents, while maintaining old idents (Oneness) for temporarily until Christmas. So, why BBC One don't using its sister channel approach? This place and Clean Feed have been feeding off each other. It's worth noting the actual BBC have never officially set a date for this rebrand. Because the Beeb want to surprised the British public for unveiled their new logo, because they don't know when the actual rebrand happens (remember when Phil Vowels say on 3rd October 1997, only say thank you and goodnight, not mentioning the rebrand). Nevertheless, the aspects of the rebrand were already seen since late-2020 with BBC Select, and a week ago, the new logo was shown to the public "unofficially" for the first time in Doctor Who: Flux teaser. As for now, the I Like The Way U Move official twitter account is already shown us a new logo. With 1997, however, anyone who browsed TV presentation websites would have known that a new BBC logo was coming, along with a likely BBC 1 rebrand on 4th October. Some months earlier, one of the tabloids printed a mocked up new BBC logo with the then-current BBC letter in square boxes and no lines underneath, but I’m not sure if the actual rebrand date was mentioned in the press. New BBC channel logos in action - AJ - 14-10-2021 Is Clean Feed reputable? I've never heard of them before this week, other than being born out of a pretty decent TV Pres website from the 2000s? I'm taking everything with a huge bucket of salt - and certainly 'news' posted as fact on that website/twitter without citation or credibility at least. There'll be a change on Wednesday regardless of the scale of it. New BBC channel logos in action - SteveRW - 14-10-2021 AJ post_id=46918 time= user_id=920 Wrote:Is Clean Feed reputable? I think its probably true that the oneness identity will remain for now, but I agree, there should be citation provided if they report something as fact. It's the smug way Clean Feed reports things as if they are taunting saying "I know something you dont know doodah!" that has possibly led to some of the frustration. Whatever does or doesn't happen on Wednesdsy is not life changing stuff. It's just TV presentation. I think if we stop and think about it, none of us on here actually heard any confirmation that new idents would come Wednesday. We logically assumed they would. I believe one or two of the insiders said they had only just finished making them so perhaps they were never intended to launch just yet. What made me smile about the clean feed article though, was the panic strewn paragraph about what BBC1 will do at Christmas now that their new identity has been delayed. They suggest that an old package will be reused. But, perhaps, and of course, it's just me speculating, the new identity will launch with a Christmas variation because that way its easier to transition to the new ones afterwards. However, if they do have to use an old package, only 2016's or 2018's would really work. They were the first to report that the new logo would be rolled out across the corporation in an article which got picked up by much of the national press. They also previously reported that the masterbrand was under review. So on the rebrand, yes, I’d say they’re credible. New BBC channel logos in action - Rob - 14-10-2021 A quick note to say that AxiosBrit67 has been banned for one month for continuing to post speculation on the forum as fact. The Oneness bashing is also getting a bit tedious, so let's have less of that please, and more about the forthcoming rebrand, whenever that may be. Thanks. |
