The Sport Thread - harshy - 21-07-2021 Double logoed as well on bbc iplayer what’s going on here. The Sport Thread - Jon - 21-07-2021 Those opening titles are cringe worthy, likely to alienate traditional cricket fans, with younger they’re trying to target likely to see through the lame attempt to make it to appeal to them. The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 21-07-2021 Is Vick Hope hosting because she and Jordan North locked Greg James in a campervan? The Sport Thread - TIGHazard - 21-07-2021 So two on Digital Spy said the graphics are 'giving me a headache' and one said 'the pink appears to be strobing' Do individual graphics go through the harding test? The Sport Thread - william - 21-07-2021 As a cricket fan of some 30 years, and as this is an ECB 'initiative', I naturally expect (and secretly want) this to be an abject failure. I think the biggest problem perhaps is creating a bunch of new teams with no real history or fan base behind them. They're also launching it on Day -2 of the Olympics. Will anyone really want to watch it once all the highlights for that get going? It will be fascinating to see if it actually does attract a lasting new audience though. What's the aim though? Will they start watching other cricket, or just ignore it the rest of the year. And wouldn't putting county Twenty20 games on terrestrial and YouTube have had exactly the same effect? The graphics look less horrid on air in the 5 minutes I've watched than they do posted as screenshots here, though there is a lot of wasted, blocked off space on either side of the screen as the innings progresses (are we still allowed to call it that? They wanted to drop the term "wickets" in favour of "outs" at one point). Also it seems slightly adsurd that I have to look in multiple places on the screen to figure out the score - overall, I think working out the state of the game from the graphics is actually quite hard even though the rules are supposedly simpler. Live cricket back on the BBC, so 'da kidz' can watch it and get involved... .. Until they find out proper cricket games can and do last longer than 100 balls per innings. The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 21-07-2021 Although increasingly more and more events are having their own graphics now rather than relying on the home broadcaster there is something quite wrong with BBC Sport and Sky Sports investing in slick, modern, effective graphics packages - and then being forced to air that. P.S. Are the pink and green associated with the event or linked to team colours? The Sport Thread - RhysJR - 21-07-2021 One thing from the covearge that is making me a bit uncomfotable is the many contributors building up how great it is that a women's match opens the tournament. It seems a little empty when most of the women's matches are ditched to the afternoons (especially on weekdays) with the men's matches in prime time, and the BBC has minmised most of their women's matches to iPlayer only - unsurprisingly all the men's matches get actual TV coverage on BBC Two. The equality has gone missing somewhere. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/57586762 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/the-hundred-women/scores-fixtures https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/the-hundred-men/scores-fixtures The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 21-07-2021 Yes, surely they could have scheduled it in such a way to at least guarantee each womens team would get one airing on BBC2. Don't know if it's due to the Olympics but poor that 5 women's games only on Red Button/iplayer, when they are buying rights to the WSL & Women's 6 Nations and looking to prioritise women's sport. Apart from the graphics (which for me aren't too bad just need a bit of tweaking) good to see live cricket on BBC TV (I know they had some England T20s the last year). The Sport Thread - harshy - 21-07-2021 This can’t be produced by sky surely looks like it’s a whisper production. The remaining womens games they plan to broadcast all seem to be after the Olympics. The Sport Thread - harshy - 21-07-2021 Oh wow those graphics flashed at the end green and pink constantly what the lol. The Sport Thread - Ste - 21-07-2021 Some screenshots from Sky's coverage. They showed the official post-match presentation/interview which the BBC didnt. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
