ITV leaves the South Bank - Bluecortina - 24-06-2021 UTVLifer post_id=23686 time=1624547283 user_id=1030 Wrote:Who would have thought around 16/17 years ago that ITV would be about to move all of its staff into W12 - between White City and the daytime studios at TVC. With most of the BBC's London staff now all packed in like sardines at NBH I would have thought that. Sometime around 2009/10 the head of BBC Property services was seen at Kent House and the inevitable rumour was that the BBC TV centre was going to be refurbished by a joint consortium of ITV/BBC with both ending up there. It would have been a sensible solution for both broadcasters. Ho hum. Like a lot of businesses they've discovered that a lot of their work can be done perfectly well from home and a lot of their staff are quite happy working from home. Things won't be returning back to the old way of working. The idea I believe is to move to the option of 2 or 3 days in the office a week with the rest of the time working from home. That substantially reduces the amount of office space needed, hence the move of the remaining staff from W12 ITV leaves the South Bank - UTVLifer - 24-06-2021 Inspector Sands post_id=23720 time= user_id=1003 Wrote:I was more referring to pre-Covid times, given how many departments got moved out of W12 into NBH around 2013/14UTVLifer post_id=23686 time= user_id=1030 Wrote:With most of the BBC's London staff now all packed in like sardines at NBHThey're not, BH has been at most half of its full capacity over the last 18 months, the Broadcast Centre has been even emptier. No, it came from Energy Centre. ITV leaves the South Bank - JK1985 - 24-06-2021 I do wonder if the developers have regrets in not saving one more television studio at Television Centre? I read that in their original plan, TC4 would have been kept, but money came into it, and the studio was lost in the redevelopment. If there had have been another large studio, I bet BBC Studioworks would have made a lot of profit out of it, considering ITV daytime now use TC2 daily and have permanent sets built into TC3, meaning in effect two studios out of commission for other productions - although TC2 is more flexible. ITV leaves the South Bank - Steve in Pudsey - 25-06-2021 I suspect Studioworks can't believe their luck. People were predicting that TC2 was the wrong size and would struggle to attract bookings but here they are with a block booking from ITV which surely reduces the admin overhead too. The BBC still have some technical/operational facilities in the Energy Centre which I'm sure will remain there for now - presumably they'll be the only BBC prescense there ITV leaves the South Bank - Inspector Sands - 25-06-2021 JK1985 post_id=23787 time= user_id=1347 Wrote:I do wonder if the developers have regrets in not saving one more television studio at Television Centre? Because of the original design it's the natural place to have the division between studios and flats/hotel I doubt the income from the flats that replaced TC4 would have been less than the extra lease income from the BBC for a studio instead. Having studios on site isn't an advantage for them at all ITV leaves the South Bank - Steve Williams - 25-06-2021 Inspector Sands post_id=23813 time= user_id=1003 Wrote:The One Show cane from The Energy Centre, which was next door to the Broadcast Centre, same lobby but turn right rather than left. Yes, as far as most people are concerned, the Broadcast Centre and Energy Centre are the same place, they share a reception and atrium. You can see that here. https://youtu.be/qdOjF2sYbBI Energy Centre on the left as we look at it, Broadcast Centre on the right. I need to find another Coco di Mama... Think there'll be some remaining floorspace in BC on one of the non-ITV floors (where BBC Creative currently are I think?) that will go to someone else as well.
