New BBC Logo - brioalex - 21-07-2021 I suspect the most we’ll see of those icon is on the BBC website purely as way-finding/navigation. I can’t see the News, Weather or Sport ones used in and around programming on the channels themselves. Well the examples on the survey show them used in cross channel promotion - and animating lots too. New BBC Logo - Brekkie - 21-07-2021 I think they're going to try with them but whether they work remains to be seen. They'll work well enough on TV where they animate from the BBC News logo for example into the icon and then back again, but not so well in non-animated form IMO. I wonder when and where they’ll use the Weather icon on TV? Possibly at the start and end? This is what resulted: New BBC Logo - Brekkie - 21-07-2021 Considering weather is blue rather than yellow you'd think they'd have gone for raindrops rather than sun. And the piano melody of eternal sadness New BBC Logo - RDJ - 21-07-2021 With the random ‘blocks’ representing ‘News’ and ‘Weather’ - it seems they’re either trying to do a Channel 4 in making the blocks part of their identity, or trying to do a Prince and have a picture of some blocks as ‘the service formerly known as BBC News’. Eitherway, I feel using blocks to make some sort of picture to represent services is something they’re never going to sustain for a long time. It’s going to be very restrictive, doesn’t quite scream ‘BBC’ to me and looks like a very poor amateur mock on here at best. New BBC Logo - Spencer - 21-07-2021 I think my problem with them is the icons are mostly made of three differently shaped rectangles, whereas the BBC logo is made of squares, so the link to the BBC blocks is a bit tenuous. If this had been done by Channel 4, it might have worked better, given they’ve got a bigger variety of shapes and sizes of block to work with. New BBC Logo - HTV Best - 21-07-2021 I've done the research.. The BBC Two promo was very un-BBC with the blocks stretching and flying off to the top of the screen and the Two at the bottom (still had the curve) . But if its a case of go hard or go home. This refresh is going hard.... And I like. The closest promo on screen to the new look currently is the trending on BBC with the columns moving vertically and the BBC iPlayer trail (with the images moving horizontally) Its going to be a modern and fresh look if the graphics that are being tested come to the screen. New BBC Logo - Blubatt - 21-07-2021 Having read this thread, and having seen some of the ideas about how these new blocks would be implemented (via BBC Select, that gorgeous mock on The Gallery, and by imagination) I have actually started to change my view on the notion of changing the block logo to this new one. I by no means think its perfect, I still think that the letters are too small, but execution is up there. New BBC Logo - Stanley Matravers - 21-07-2021 Let's hope that the level of branding consistency that the upcoming overhaul is seemingly set to bring actually endures in the long-term/permanently, rather than gradually crumbling and drifting over the ensuing years like the 1997-onwards stuff has done. Pfft. Fat chance. This is Auntie Beeb, after all. With its 94,000 layers of middle management each ruling their own little fiefdom within the corporation. We'll be back in Hotchpotch City, branding wise, once again by about 2036*. If not far sooner. (*Do I mean the year, or mid-evening on the day after the rebrand? You decide...) Unless the anti-Beeb crowd finally get their way, the licence fee is scrapped, and it is forced to become a commercial broadcaster like everyone else ("BBC plc", anyone? With the "orphan initials" in the legal company name no longer technically standing for anything, of course) and therefore have a commercial broadcasters' mindset regarding things like branding. Not that I want any of that to happen just for the sake of branding, you understand. But I struggle to believe that the Beeb will ever become capable of sustaining brand consistency in any other scenario. /cynicism |
