Why?

There is a full rebrand coming. It will happen in October. We are quite sure it will happen next Wednesday.

Nothing else needs to be said.

But Conor's going to have sleepless nights if Oneness is going to stay on...

Haha, very funny...

To be fair to Clean Feed, they’ve a good track record on the rebrand. Were they not the first to reveal that the blocks only seen on BBC Select and BBC Kids Australia were to be rolled out as the new logo, despite many scoffing? So it sounds like they’ve got some inside information.

I don’t think anyone’s said anything on here about management not being happy with the new idents (unless I’ve missed something), so that sounds like new information.

I’m certainly not writing this off just yet.

Although, yes, it would have been nice of them to have credited TVLF regarding the comments quoted.

Clean Feed Wrote:Some insiders, who have seen the new BBC One idents, recently commented on them in an online forum.

This website has a name...

I'm almost certain they are a user here. I remember emailing them a breakdown clip I captured last year (the Euro 2008 one where they had to air the radio coverage) and they told me it wouldn't be an interesting article because I'd already shared it on TVforum!

I would be interested to hear where this rebrand started and who influences it. Was it the new DG wanting a new BBC logo, or someone in a creative team going to him and recommending it?

How much involvement do senior management have in what is essentially a creative process? If they don’t like the idents, would they stop them?

This forum's going to go ballistic if oneness does stick around though, considering the almost irrational rage some people on here have for it...
Oh god... I hope this isn't true.

I want to know that too. Like if others want the new idents to air, let them air and see what the general public will say before they decide to bring One-mess back from the dead.

Martin Lambie-Nairn told a story about being able to hear a pin drop when the Balloons were first shown to directors, etc.

And a similar anecdote about a person with major influence at the BBC absolutely detesting the "2s" - to the extent they were almost pulled after 2 weeks, before a chance meeting with Charles Saatchi convinced them otherwise.

With something so subjective, someone in a position of influence has to have a clear vision they are able to communicate and get the majority on board with. Without courage in convictions, two of the most iconic series of idents may never have made it on screen.

That said, if something's not sitting right with the majority, rather than a vocal and influential minority, then there may be a puzzle in need of solving.

Popcorn at the ready.

Imagine if someone edited the recent Doctor Who teaser to have some glimpses of the new BBC look?

I think that'd be fun to see

The Doctor Who teaser is the first time that new look BBC was "unofficially" unveiled to public, same as teaser of new BBC Three show "I Like The Way U Move".

They have now. Always credit your sources kids (even though I'll admit not doing so in the past)...

Maybe, just maybe, the BBC don't want to deprive anyone of being able to talk about Oneness on forums. After all, once they're gone, they will be forgotten...

Although, despite not yet seeing these new idents ourselves, it beggars the question as to why these same managers who dislike the new batch also were the ones who were seemingly happy with Oneness.

Well I would like to ask what was wrong with Oneness, I thought the Oneness package was brilliant because it shows people coming together as one, I don't wanna argue with this but believe me , an ident like the iconic globe wouldn't work today.

To be honest, I'd rather have new idents (even if they're dull and boring) than Oneness. I think it's time for a new look anyway.

Oneness were let down by the lack of a soundtrack and by launching the set with two idents that looked cheap and rushed out for the sake of it. Circles were looking tired so a new look was inevitable, but Oneness could have worked much better with a more cheery approach, and a better and more pleasing trailer end board than just a red background. You are right, as a concept, Oneness had potential, but the execution of the ident package was not of the BBC's once high standard.

I agree too, that an ident like the globe rotating around would not work today, but reintroducing the globe in an innovative way might.
