I think the sound is ahead of the pictures as well. Had to happen during a Wales match, didn't it?

Euro 2020 (+1) - News Engineer - 16-06-2021

The picture breakup looked to me like the encoders were having problems, maybe some sort of power issue. Going to one camera could have been some sort of disaster recovery.

Happened on Dutch broadcast as well.

If I understand the routing the problem was on the incoming AZE > NED link, the timing and graphics continued, for which the metadata which I understand to being inserted in the Netherlands continued so the NED > BBC link would seem to have been solid throughout.

I didn't bring it up at the time because I was still in shock from what happened but when the Demark/Finland game resumed on Saturday, the timing between the World Feed and the BBC clock was out by a minute.

It’s quite unusual for Gary to get two days off so early in the tournament, with no matches on the Beeb yesterday and Chappers and Gabby handling today’s fixtures

The background behind the presenters and pundits on the bbc studio don’t seem to match with each shot, look closely and it’s different each time.

The fact that from what’s been posted here multiple broadcasters (I think we can assume all) were affected by the same fault would also show the problem was incoming to the IBC in Amsterdam. Almost certainly at the stadium, as there would be multiple / diverse paths from stadium to IBC.

It’s the same on MOTD. On the wideshot they’ll be a large photo or video and on the close up it’s just the main background behind the pundit. It’s been like that for a while so assumed it deliberate rather than an technical issue or oversight.

it's pretty standard for Camera 1 to be UPS- backed and available to be sent by a diverse path, so if all else fails in your OB truck, you've still got *something* to go to air with. It's not necessarily going to be pretty to get onto it and back off it again, but it's better than a black screen!

Chappers and Micah Richards were part of the 5 Live Presentation for Wales v Turkey and actually just went off air there before the Italy v Switzerland match. Would that be the reason why they were in the 2nd studio?

Euro 2020 (+1) - RhysJR - 16-06-2021

Great figures, especially early or without home nation involvement

Presumably covid considerations means a clean down is needed everytime there is a new team in the studio so with two games back to back that's probably why they've gone for two studios.

I must say Gabby Logan doesn't get the credit she deserves as a broadcaster - she just gets better and better every year IMO.

Yep, fairly standard for that to be the case. Often with a nice old battery-powered SQN for basic audio too. I'm always quite surprised how often it is used, at least in my experience!

Did BBC not have 2 games in their main studio back to back on Saturday and same with ITV yesterday which included a change of pundits/presenters but you could be right just a question about the use of the 2nd studio today.

Apart from that I think we have been very lucky with the coverage so far from BBC/ITV bar what happened with Christian Eriksen although as I said I wouldn't be too hard on the BBC for that. ITV have raised their game and bringing in likes of Neville, De Jong, Vieira etc to go alongside their regulars really raised the coverage and the BBC has been excellent as usual. Only thing I can complain about is that ITV do not have their Clive Tyldesley & Ally McCoist as their number 1 commentary duo instead with Sam Matterface & Lee Dixon, actually hearing Sam with Emma Hayes the other day I don't think he is as bad as people say on twitter but just Clive & Ally are so good, just like in 2018 Jon Champion & Ally should have been Number 1. Also don't think the referee has added much in the coverage but apart from that excellent.

As for BBC excellent as ever, good MOTD team from presenters, pundits and commentators that is used to doing it week in week out and great strength in depth then adding in likes of Eilidh Barbour, Darren Fletcher, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard has made it another great showing from the BBC.
