Sky One's "LIVE" graphic hasn't always been updated in times of need (i.e see below from a 2006 Braniac spin-off)

It's now been 4 days since the channel changes, yet the thumbnail graphic on the Sky Home Page (updated on Tuesday morning) still shows 'Sky Max' at 106. This suggests to me that 'Sky Showcase' is just a pop-up channel and won't be around for very long.

Either watching it at a friends or whilst having a late Sunday lunch at home, it was always comforting even as the show itself declined in quality. I haven’t had Sky for a number of years now but I think I’ll be signing up for Now TV tonight just to watch the last episode ever introduced with a Sky One ident.
The final Simpsons episode on Sky One will be The Great Money Caper. The first one on Sky Showcase will be A Tale of Two Springfields.

Coincidentally, A Tale of Two Springfields was also the first episode to air on Channel 4.

I assume they only made Sky Showcase to shelve the rights to the Simpsons? I don't know. Sky Showcase does feel like something that'd only last 6-12 months.

But there may be a case to keeping it, as some Sky channels on other platforms, especially Virgin, are scattered whereas on Sky, they're close to each other.

It mainly suggests Sky doesn't care much about Sky+HD anymore, and they don't care about "details"

A thumbnail not updating for four days does not automatically imply the provider "doesn't care much". If they truly didn't care that would still say Sky One.

I think the point is that they updated it, but with seemingly incorrect information, so why bother in the first place?

Either it was originally the plan to have Sky Max on 106 but it was changed and they forgot to update the graphic.

Or someone just got it wrong and no one noticed the error - perhaps the fact Sky Max took over the bandwidth from Sky One, an assumption the EPG would also be taken over was made...

Sky Portfolio Changes - Rick - 06-09-2021

Also, if the HD versions are appearing at 106-108 then surely 105 should say Channel 5 HD as well.

I too think Sky Max would look better at 106 and I don't like the name or positioning of Sky Showcase, especially considering that Sky's big shows they want to "showcase" are usually on in prime time, so mornings they have to resort to simulcasting really old shows like Monkey Life and Nothing To Declare and then most of the daytime is Sky One, sorry Sky Max - hardly a "showcase" for anything. It just seems like a waste, and Sky Max looks like it has a much better line-up and should get the prominence at 106.

I get what Sky are attempting, but I think it's pointless and not needed. Put The Simpsons on Sky Max and put it at 106 and get rid of Showcase.

The whole thing feels like it’s another one of Sky’s occasional follies, like renaming Sky Sports News to “Sky Sports News HQ” and displacing the other channels to put it at the top of the sports section of the EPG.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the whole thing gets reversed a year from now.

This whole thing's going to be laughed at if they bring back Sky One in a year's time according to others here

The whole Sky Sports News HQ thing would have been a bit less silly if it hasn’t been the second time they’d done it (remember Skysports.comTV? Don’t worry no one else does).

I’m not sure I’d tar this with the same brush, though I think they’ve thrown a way a very long established brand a bit casually. I can understand if in the on demand era they don’t want “One” as part of the brand name.

I don't see the Sky One name returning. I do see Sky Showcase disappearing (either altogether or shunted to the bottom of the EPG before finishing altogether) once Sky lose the rights to The Simpsons, however.

Why? The Simpsons certainly isn't Sky Showcase's raison d'etre.

People are getting too hung up on daytime, people are only watching in primetime and that's when the channel is serving the purpose it was launched for. As I said earlier in the thread this would appear to be an attempt by Sky to maximise what's left in linear advertising revenue by having a packed schedule at the top of their EPG that collates all the new shows from their otherwise fragmented channels whose linear ratings have dropped significantly over the years. The channel is unlikely to be going anywhere any time soon.

☝? this.

The point of the channel isn't to serve as a home for The Simpsons. It's a shop window for the whole of Sky's catalogue - not only from across the entertainment portfolio that's been created over the last couple of years, but also for Sky Cinema showings and Sky Sports simulcasts which viewers don't necessarily normally have access to.
