They also removed the 1830 news during the first lockdown as well so I wonder if they saw increased figures for that slot and have been planning to submit the change for a while.

However there will presumably need to be an increase in content, given that some reports are currently aired in both half hour bulletins. The ITN press release mentions more reporting, including investigations, which would indicate an increase in newsgathering costs
