With the murder of Sir David Amess today, the Thames News YouTube account has posted a report from Basildon featuring the then MP for the town.

The pilot of This Time with Alan Partridge. All the funnier for being made on the One Show set

Think the series would have worked better had they used the actual One Show set, as it hints much more strongly what they’re actually trying to parody.

Though the black curtain looks horrid, and so do the wrinkly seat covers.

It’s not often stuff like this is found, but here’s the continuity preceding the first transmission of the last episode of Fawlty Towers, Basil the Rat.

After BBC One stopped fully closing down at night and instead hand over to BBC News 24, the continuity announcers stopped saying goodnight regularly and only say it on BBC Two, however an exception was made on 22nd December 1998 when Phil Vowels said goodnight and handed over to BBC News 24.

I'm sure I'm very late to this particular party but this blew me away on MrSean64's YouTube channel:

Are these mocks? If so, they're up to the incredible standards set by mdta and others.

And is MrSean64 one of us?

EDIT: Sorry, after looking through the YouTube comments, I realise there was a dispute about this. They were originally DTV's work and uploaded to YouTube without DTV's permission by cnnfan1230.

DTV, I hope you don't mind me posting this. This is a sublime bit of work showing creativity in abundance and great technical skill. Amazing stuff.

Not at all linked to the presentation side, but a very early version of the NHS Lozenge logotype is in one of the reports there (14:59), a logo that was rolled out to the wider NHS England in 1999.

I suppose they should change it now we know it's at least 30 years old and Frutiger must cost them money in licensing...

Here's an interesting mash-up that actually happened:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDdFxTLnTUA

An (incomplete) episode of Blockbusters from Australia, 1991. Featuring the UK title sequence (up to a point), the US board, a different contestant format (done for children in this version) and some horrible buzzer noises.

Is it a coincidence that the font on the alternative viewing caption looks like old school dymo tape? (Albeit a variant width version)?

Talking of BBC News 24, here's a handover from BBC One from the final weekend before David Lowe's "pips" and thunderbolts came crashing down on the channel.

I seem to recall the flags lasted overnight a bit longer as BBC World didn't make the move over at the same time

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole a few years ago looking for foreign versions of certain game shows.

Have some Greek Catchphrase!
