It sounded horrendous, and there was no apology for it, which is very strange for live TV.
As for the programme, there was obviously a sombre tone, but they kept it going as normal. The news updates were welcome, and it made a good compromise to rolling coverage and no coverage at all.
On a different note, I’ve noticed that they’ve used (what I believe to be) The Broadcaster bar for some fashion items including today’s on World Book Day costumes. It offers lovely views looking over Television Centre.

I also noticed that they had added fluttering Ukrainian flags into their backdrop at the start of the programme, which I thought was a very nice touch.

It was always going to take some adjusting to a return to "normality". Agree it looked like they were on top of each other before. In most work environments you're not sitting cheek to cheek with your colleague.

My work environment doesn't see my colleagues and I walking across a tightrope in a tent either, but that doesn't preclude a circus doing it.
If they sit further apart, it means a wider angle (usually) without doing odd split screens and so on – and that creates a shot in which the subject looks smaller. There's a reason they used to sit that close together, and while that might change a bit having gone to another extreme, I don't think it will seem so odd when we've got used to it again.

Apologies if already mentioned elsewhere but I see that since Tuesday they've been starting the show with an ident for the first time since the big change a couple of years back.
Much better than beginning off the back of the ITV News slide like they did on Monday, particularly as it's sponsored.
The idents are up on TV Home, a mix of generic and bespoke introductions.
