It would be pretty cool if they managed to get all the regions to air all their old 70’s idents, but then again there are some ramifications they’d have to deal with if they wanted to

It's 1960s theme, the drama is set in 1963.

1970s ITV regional pres was a little (but not much!) racier in most regions

The jingle under the announcer is intriguing me. It does sound a tiny bit like a slow, brass version of the Welcome Home to ITV jingles, bit surely nobody is going to have made something specially for this. But if they did, the 79 strike pres might have been the inspiration I guess

Do they even have the infrastructure for that on all regions still? The ident into the regional news is incorporated into the titles.
Guess they could play it out in a similar manner to the trailers for regional news.

Was ITV nationwide by 1963? And wasn't colour a few years later?

All the regions had launched by 1963, (Channel was the last in 62) but UK coverage was not universal.

Colour arrived with 625 lines in the London, ATV, Granada, YTV, STV, and Southern regions (and not universal within any of those regions) in Nov/Dec 1969

Actually, it seems WWN was the last, by 2 weeks. However, Channel TV was last in switching to colour in the space year 1976.

They play different things in different regions about every 15 minutes so it should be possible, just with the correct will and a bit of effort

I think every region and sub region is an independent play-out chain, (because an advertiser can buy ad space on just a single sub region ?)

Whether ITV's pres dept have got the inclination ( or budget !) to produce 15 different idents, and program up into the Leeds and Chiswick playout systems, I don't know !

BTW did STV do anything special ?

Like Brekkie said, it probably wouldn't be worth the effort, particularly given some of the franchise names (LWT/Carlton and Harlech/HTV are examples that spring to mind) aren't even used any more.

It served its purpose, though - set the scene and feel like a 60s ident - like how Channel 4 didn't just use the 1982 ident set for It's a Sin, they went for the special 80s-looking and feeling idents from the period with primitive CGI, neon lights and obviously synthesised music. You could argue some of the ITV idents of the time feel, to me, more 50s than 60s (thinking of Tyne Tees' "Triple T" logo)

Yep, and for 1963 style we're talking ABC, ATV, Reduffusion, TWW, WWN etc, rather than Thames, LWT, and HTV !

Sadly no.

ITV Idents and Presentation - Steve in Pudsey - 07-03-2022

Did they take the retro idents ITV used or just standard pres?

ITV Idents and Presentation - Brekkie - 07-03-2022

Guessing the blue and yellow flag idents ITV are now using again are no coincidence

ITV Idents and Presentation - CameronYoung - 07-03-2022

Possibly is given the red version was used into Real Deal, The Chase and Corrie.

Also, if it were related to current events, wouldn't they have chosen it last week? Wink

I'm a bit late to the party here, but the first thing I thought of when I saw the ident was the old IBA logo used at the start of the engineering announcements

RE: ITV Idents and Presentation - Brekkie - 11-05-2022

Seems to be an issue with the ECPs today.  Seen a couple, including just now on The Chase, where they cut off before the announcer has finished speaking.
