ITV News is having a rather major investment in new technology and a new national newsroom. So I suspect any updates will be when or after that is finished.

Talking about being too London centric for News at Ten - the whole programme is focused around Big Ben since it launched in the summer of 1967, with Big Ben the biggest part of the programme, they can't complain in 2008 for being too London centric, as Big Ben is London!

ITV News - Brekkie - 10-10-2021

Of course - people say the news is too London centric so the easiest thing to do was change the background rather than the content, which is probably what the public were really moaning about. I do think the 2009-13 set could have looked amazing with a different variation for News at Ten with a London panoramic incorporated, and perhaps switching out the yellow for blue and keeping that unique 2008 look a little bit longer alongside the new ITV News branding.

Another thing that changes and changes back again is News at Ten having a unique look so I hope should ITV News refresh next year they do keep News at Ten slightly different to the other bulletins. I think the current look works well - basically being the same, but different.

Hopefully 2022 will turn out similar to 1999 and see refreshed news packages across the channels. We certainly know changes are coming to BBC and C5, and I think ITV will see it as time for them to refresh too. IMO C4 News could really do with refreshening up too - never been a huge fan of the current look and Jon Snow leaving might be the impetus for change their as well.

Has already begun actually with lots of the 'underneath' technology being worked on. The newsroom will be moving temporarily next.
There was speculation internally that the studio could be moved, but that was decided against. Think it's unlikely that you will see much change (except for newsroom lives) for a while with so much else going on but with the graphics upgrade it is possible that a refresh could follow next year.

Although, to be fair to the critics, there is a difference between images of London, Washington, Paris and Beijing before zooming in on Big Ben, as it was in the seventies, and flying past The City and the London Eye en route to Big Ben as it was in 2008.
I thought the 2008 look was great and too short lived, for the record.

ITV News - Ben Shatliff - 10-10-2021

I agree everything does still look very fresh from 2013 but like most people on here I enjoy a new look and get excited by it.

Mainly I think the opening titles need a refresh on National and Regional programmes and I mean a complete refresh rather than just the odd picture.

I also feel they could use the studios more rather than just sat behind the desks etc.

The big question is, are we speculations on a possible not change or do we actually think some kind of change could happen next year?

ITV News - JK1985 - 10-10-2021

I feel ITV will not get rid of their green screen virtual backdrop for their news, no matter what revamp they might do. Since February 2004 they have always used green screen virtual backdrops, and I do not see them ditching that aspect in any possible revamp.

Purely for operational convenience the green screen backdrop works as it's used for both national and regional London bulletins which require different backdrops.

I'd love to see real studios back for the national and London bulletins, but it's cheaper to do it all from one studio using one gallery team.

To be fair, some of us have been saying that it's time for a refresh for a couple of years now. And I said previously in the blue place that I felt that ITV should return to physical sets rather than sticking with virtual ones. In my view, the desk is the weakest individual element in the whole ITV News look. If they only replaced the desks with something more suitable, it would do a hell of a lot to improve the look.
