BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - JAS84 - 22-10-2021

Didn't Rob already tell us to knock off the Oneness bashing?

Dunno, but I’m REALLY enjoying the ‘Is it Oneness if it doesn’t actually include the word “Oneness”’ discussion for the eighteenth time.

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - Brekkie - 22-10-2021

The irony being nobody was talking about it until he posted complaining about people talking about it. It's those posts which are more annoying than people sharing their opinion about a significant branding element.

One thing I will say about the continued use of the idents is you actually barely notice them, and I think it is somewhat the same for BBC4. Almost unapologetically insignificant rather than "look at me" loud and proud.

I think that's the intention - remove the focus from the individual channel brands, to instead focus on the BBC brand as a whole. In that respect I think it works. Though I do wish they'd kept the 1997 logo - I don't see why they felt the need to change it - but that is a discussion for another time.

BBC Two with Channel of the Year last year? Seems like that dreaded "Channel of the Year" text will end up on BBC One's idents shortly.

Also, Edinburgh TV Fest wasn't told of the new BBC logo. Then again, barely any press got out about the look except on a dinky old TV pres forum, so eh.

Because the BBC before the logo was changed earlier this week wasn't in corporate branding and it was using Reith and not Gill Sans, and the presentation style moved away from corporate branding at the end of 2001, so there was every need to change the logo.

So if the presentation styles moves again from corporate like in 2001 then another logo change should be necessary? I am asking this because I am just very curious

Instead of merely fading in, there's now an ellipse sweeping across the screen before the main circle appears.

There are 3 bright red and 3 dark red end blips. Similarly there are 3 different ways for the BBC logo to animate off at the start of trails, and 3 different ways for the bright red or dark red endboard-and-logo to animate on.

The intersecting circle effect is known as the lens.

Well if they don't break corporate guides like they did back in 2001 then it shouldn't be a problem. One thing I would like to see tho is CBBC going back to a corporate logo as well, just like the 1997 logo.

Well, you'll be in for a treat in Spring 2022 Wink

All jokes aside, I don't think it would work. The corporate look was ditched for the lack of personality.
(Any further debate should belong in the CBBC/Cbeebies thread!)

Yay! I got the lens's name right!

Surely the blip would be the perfect place to promote stuff like "Channel of the Year" without it impinging on the idents.

Talking of which, do we have any idea how long the new idents have been delayed? Did we ever get confirmation whether the reason they weren't launched was the over London-centricness of them, or was it just that they weren't liked. If the latter then is it back to the drawing board or just a tweak? If the former is it just the case of adding three Nations ones for now and filming more later?

Worth noting that in a previous thread for BBC Two the 'Channel of the Year' was shown on the transition into the ident, before disappearing. Hopefully BBC One will now opt for something similar, rather than looking out of place.

At a guess I suspect the new regular idents won't appear until 1st Jan. After all there's just over 5 weeks until December when I'd expect Christmas idents to premier, hopefully in the new style.

Yes it would work actually, and the black and yellow idents was my favourite CBBC idents, the blobs that was introduced was a let down and boring because CBBC went for a non corporate style which it never should've done in the first place.

Wait, what. You think the blobs were boring and the yellow and black dreariness wasn’t?

BBC One: 2021 Rebrand - JAS84 - 23-10-2021

Seriously? They're boring. Kids channels should be colourful, yellow and black certainly isn't that, unlike the previous and later CBBC idents. CITV's 1998 package blows 1997 CBBC out of the water.
