Euro 2020 (+1) - Stanley Matravers - 12-06-2021

Listings now showing that the post-news Euros highlights, Thierry Henry documentary, and full match replay have all been dropped. Replaced by solely a late film, before the usual Weather For The Week Ahead and NC simulcast.

EDIT: Also, the late news is now listed as having a 20-minute slot, not 30 (was this its original planned duration?).

the highlights are still listed as being on the Red Button, though it may just be that the EPG team haven't removed it from there yet.

BBC Wales' Euros programme, Elis James' Feast of Football, that was due to be on after the news (with highlights on 30 minutes later than network) has been canceled for tonight like network's other football programming. The CA at 22:20 said it will now air at 16:30 tomorrow instead.

Yes, the lower third straps are nice but generic enough, that I imagine they’ll be rolled over into their football coverage for next season. The current barely used football set apart from mainly wraparound coverage has been around for ages and the one from 2006 is still hanging around on things like the Snooker. Obviously ITV Sport’s production companies are clearly free to use whatever they want though, but wouldn’t be surprised if there is some consolidation.
Yes, the generic graphics rarely seen now the international friendlies are standardised too, though I did think (probably wrongly) they'd updated the football version.

The generic ones though must be some of the oldest presentation still in use - and IMO they didn't look that great to start with either. As you say mainly used for darts and snooker.

ITV may get the opporunity to do their own thing with the FA Cup and ideally from a broadcaster point of view with them sharing rights with the BBC they'd probably prefer that but I wouldn't be surprised if the FA were keen to standardise the look.

Understandable not showing highlights of the match concerned but I think shortening the programme and changing the tone somewhat, with an update on the players situation and the teams post-match reaction (not shown live earlier, which was probably the right call) would have been reasonable.

From the second article:
Quote:There is also the ability to display live full body 3D interviews with players and coaches from the venue in the studio. That’s similar to the ‘teleportation’ of interviews used by Eurosport in its recent coverage of tennis majors.

Will be interesting to see how good or bad that looks. I assume they're hosting from Wembley tomorrow anyway.

I see that Alex Scott's reaction to the incident has managed to upset the usual suspects on Twitter and the DM comments (not helped by a clickbait article from the latter). Glad to see that her name is trending more because of people calling out the trolls and bigots, and offering praise, than because of those original comments.

Euro 2020 (+1) - Jon - 12-06-2021

I thought Alex Scott actually did the best job of conveying her emotion of anyone.

Euro 2020 (+1) - Asa - 12-06-2021

Hadn't realised until now that my box had recorded the Red button, and whoever was in charge of that actually cut away at 43:05 (scorebar disappears) to a wide shot of the stadium until 44:55 then back to the host shots for a couple of minutes before the wide shot again for the remainder of the broadcast.

And of course it's those people who will defend absolutely anything written in the tabloids but as soon as the BBC shows something perhaps they shouldn't they're flying the #DefundTheBBC flag and using a reminder of how suddenly life can come to an end to phone OFCOM rather than their family.

Back to the decisions made over what was broadcast in the world feed and I do wonder if they may have showed more than perhaps they would otherwise with the fact that many people reporting on the match, whether commentating on TV, radio or online or in print, are not physically in the stadium and therefore reliant on the TV pictures.

Though no TV highlights, both the BBC Sport and ITV Sport websites and YouTube channels have highlights of all matches, including Finland v. Denmark. Both edits of Denmark v. Finland rightfully don't show any of the scenes on the pitch shown live, ITV's has a wide shot from the other end of the stadium whilst commentator Tom Gayle describes what had happened, and the BBC's has shots of fans with Martin Keown and Jonathan Pearce describing how bad it looked.

No, they have to take the World Feed like every other broadcaster, which is in control of UEFA.

EDIT: Somebody didn't retime the sprinklers Big Grin

Is it an independent commercial company that films and produces the feed?

I think it’s gravity media or input media.

Snip another political rant

I imagine this played a big part - I doubt there's that many feeds running to your average off tube booth.

Euro 2020 (+1) - London Lite - 13-06-2021

While in the UK it appears broadcasters used different shots during the highlights, WTVJ NBC 6 Miami decided to use footage of Eriksen collapsed on the floor to preview their sports bulletin into a break during their 6pm bulletin. It was also used during the sportscast.

Euro 2020 (+1) - AJB39 - 13-06-2021

CNN Newsroom with Pamela Brown showed the collapse about 20 minutes ago though not the CPR afterwards.

Euro 2020 (+1) - Jon - 13-06-2021

Although the CPR probably shouldn’t be shown, I imagine there will be lives saved because after seeing that moment they decided to look into it.

I think it’s something that would have been a bigger issue had he actually passed away, thankfully it seems like he’s going to be OK, in which case it was quite unfortunate but not as a troubling.
