Prince Philip has Died - Ashley - 09-04-2021 Op4bridge post_id=4240 time=1617974723 user_id=1510 Wrote:actually channel 5 was the last to break the news. That depends on how you look at it. Channel 5 had a banner on screen from 12:15 announcing the death. Channel 4 announced the death at 12:30, but it wasn't until 13:00 that channel 5 had a person 'announce' the news. Not even that, it's just the same documentary repeated. Prince Philip has Died - octothorpe - 09-04-2021 "There will be no commercial breaks in ITV's main channel coverage today." (ITV press release: https://www.itv.com/presscentre/press-releases/itvs-friday-schedule-changes-following-death-hrh-prince-philip) Prince Philip has Died - Lightbox - 09-04-2021 Half-interesting piece of trivia: Kate Silverton was originally billed to present the BBC News at One. Speedy work to get Huw in (if he wasn't already) for the special. Prince Philip has Died - James2001 - 09-04-2021 dbl post_id=4185 time=1617973283 user_id=966 Wrote:UKTV Network Obit slide Interesting that you can see the "y" in story while the picture's in 4:3 on the banner on your capture, I'm watching it via Virgin and it's cut off here (watching pillarboxed and with overscan turned off). Maybe the virgin box is cropping off the extreme right edge of the frame for some reason? Prince Philip has Died - James Martin - 09-04-2021 Channel 4 did break away from normal programmes when Diana died, yes. But their remit is to be the alternative, so I actually think they're making a good call. Prince Philip has Died - Brekkie - 09-04-2021 XIII post_id=4278 time=1617975660 user_id=894 Wrote:Doess seem odd and not something I remember they doing when even Diana died, generally breaking away from the news to take some of the displaced BBC1 shows. The Masters highlights were due this afternoon for example which is a good buffer between news coverage and a more regular schedule.Larry the Loafer post_id=4271 time=1617975503 user_id=990 Wrote:I think some of us still think we're in the 80s when we say Channel 4 are providing an alternative to the mainstream. At the same time though, I completely understand why they'd hang back when there are so many other news outlets doing the same thing.I understand why BBC One may want rolling coverage but I think BBC Two should go back to its normal schedule like they did for major terrorist attacks. BBC Radio still with a combined news service scheduled all day. Do think they should at least let Newsbeat anchor the coverage on Radio 1 and switch to more reflective music programming. Radio 4 news is fine for the immediate aftermath but they need to be able to reflect their audiences as intended. Prince Philip has Died - WeArethelosers - 09-04-2021 Is 5 just gonna repeat the same documentary indefinitely? Prince Philip has Died - Rolling News - 09-04-2021 Huw seems to be finishing early he just said Reeta will be taking over shortly. I was expecting him to be on until midnight! Prince Philip has Died - Stanley Matravers - 09-04-2021 Auntie Beeb simulcasting the rolling Prince Philip stuff across One, Two and the NC is a bit much, as far as I'm concerned. Not even any regional news programmes scheduled now, let alone entertainment. The equivalent rolling radio coverage seems to be simulcast on at least BBC Radios 2/3/4 and Local Radio stations across England. My Freeview EPG was still listing the usual ITV(1) soaps etc from 7pm a wee while ago, but it's now every bit as all-Philled-up as the Beeb. Probably, but it'll have a different title each time. Prince Philip has Died - TVGuy - 09-04-2021 I cannot believe this has happened. ITV viewers, because of the sad news, the live ITV Racing has been delayed for today.
