The Sport Thread - Rdd - 02-06-2021 Very surprising ROI Champions League rights announcement this morning, as LiveScore announce they’ve acquired the rights to the entire competition, with one Tuesday and one Wednesday night game being non-exclusive and the remainder exclusive. Well exclusive except they’ll also be on BT Sport, so not really. And the most massive surprise? All free-to-stream through their app. They outbid VMTV who previously had the rights. RTE have already been announced as having the Tuesday night package, and we still don’t know who has the Wednesday games. The Sport Thread - harshy - 02-06-2021 Sky’s cricket coverage other then a crowd no difference presentation wise, I’ll watch the superior bbc highlights later. The Sport Thread - thebigdog2020 - 02-06-2021 Something you don't see much of anymore but STV announce they will produce their own coverage of Scotland matches picked by ITV Sport for Euro 2020. https://twitter.com/STVComms/status/1400017519126122497 https://twitter.com/STVComms/status/1400060203874332676 In Euro 2016 I don't think ITV Wales did their own coverage and UTV certainly didn't and BBC just did network coverage in 2016. The Sport Thread - Rdd - 02-06-2021 Can’t remember UTV ever doing their own coverage of a football tournament (they might have the time Billy Bingham’s NI team qualified in 1982 and 1986, mind you). They certainly used to do their own Rugby World Cup coverage of Ireland matches, but I think 2007 might have been the last. The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 02-06-2021 ITV Wales had their own coverage in 2016 with Frances Donovan. Not seen anything announced for this year. Not seen anything announced for this year. They had their own coverage of the final group game which was at the same time as the England game, although that was produced by ITV Sport and simulcast on ITV4. The only other Wales match on ITV was the semi-final, where they took the network coverage. The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 02-06-2021 Yes, suspect not being in Englnd's group they won't this year. Be interesting to see if ITV4 air STV's coverage of the final Scotland group game or do their own thing. Well exclusive except they’ll also be on BT Sport, so not really. Yep. It is a big surprise today for people who follow European Football in the Rep. of Ireland. But will it be a popular one? Most people in Ireland who have a Sky subscription with the Sky Sports Extra pack; they would usually follow the UEFA Champions League in Ireland while watching the games on BT Sport through it's normal channels or through BT Sport Extra from SkyQ boxes & their own TV's at home. The LiveScore app would probably not be on their radar at all if they wanted to look at other matches being offered on BT Sport. These new match rights for the CL would be there to cater much more for the casual viewers of these matches who have no sports TV subscriptions whatsoever when compared to the paid subscribers of this tournament. It also means that the Super Cup being held in Windsor Park this year will be live streamed exclusively online via the LiveScore app for the very 1st time for viewers in the Rep. of Ireland. There is also an issue with livestreaming these CL matches from the LiveScore app. It's maximum quality is apparently currently maxed out at 720p at 25fps which is a less attractive option when compared to the BT Sport online live stream for Youtube users living in the UK. As a low cost sports provider who have rights to livestream other sports tournaments from other parts of the world, LiveScore, probably got these rights on the cheap for audiences who are apparently not really into high standards when watching live sports events on TV. But when I am watching Live sports on my TV at home.; the difference in PQ is still night & day when I watch it in HD even on a SDTV or HDTV. And that difference will still be very noticeable when I will be watching England's friendly against Austria on UTV HD tonight. The Sport Thread - dvboy - 02-06-2021 Women's Roland-Garros final will be on ITV4, men's will be on ITV3, as there is BTCC on 4 and presumably Euro 2020 on ITV. Last year they put the men on ITV while the women were still on ITV4 due to a horse-racing clash. Well exclusive except they’ll also be on BT Sport, so not really. I am not convinced they got the rights on the cheap. Seemingly their bid was high enough to outbid VMTV, the outgoing rights holder. How they plan to monetise these rights I don’t know. Adverts and lots of them maybe. Ironically enough BT’s market share for UCL in Ireland will probably now go up, once pubs reopen it is going to be the go to for commercial customers with Sky installations, dial a 3 digit channel number rather than mess about with an app and figure out how to get to get multiple TVs in sync. Mind you, most commercial premises would have had Sky (and so BT) rather than VM, although VMTV Sport was available on Sky for a little while, during the short period of the tie up with eir Sport. The Sport Thread - RhysJR - 02-06-2021 Gloucester v. Bath on Saturday cancelled due to COVID so Bristol v. Leicester being shown on Channel 5 and BT Sport in its place. Rather fortunate a match of equal attraction, I'd say, ready to replace it. https://twitter.com/PaulMorganrugby/status/1400095862760652803 The Sport Thread - thebigdog2020 - 02-06-2021 Rdd post_id=16113 time=1622663483 user_id=1409 Wrote:bkman1990 post_id=16071 time=1622657563 user_id=922 Wrote:Rdd post_id=15956 time=1622629311 user_id=1409 Wrote:Very surprising ROI Champions League rights announcement this morning, as LiveScore announce they’ve acquired the rights to the entire competition, with one Tuesday and one Wednesday night game being non-exclusive and the remainder exclusive. Well exclusive except they’ll also be on BT Sport, so not really. According to the Irish Times there is still a package of 16 games on Wednesday night to be sold so virgin may not be out of the running yet and if they can get a Europa League/Conference game it can still be worth their while for Virgin Media Two possibly, TG4 may look at it too but expect Premier Sports to be in the running too. The Sport Thread - Rdd - 02-06-2021 No I don’t expect a pay tv company to go for those last 16 Champions League games, why would they bother when there are two broadcasters already showing them, one for free. No they’re clearly earmarked for a FTA broadcaster. Europa League rights still haven’t been announced, will be interesting who picks them up and it may be a way back in for VMTV. Surprised that Garros was the one that got shunted to ITV3, having otherwise been on ITV4 for the rest of the tournament. Would have thought BTCC would have been the one to move. There was an interesting clash on two weekends in August whilst everything was catching back up last year... which resulted in BTCC on ITV2, Horse Racing on ITV3 and Tour de France on ITV4. The Sport Thread - thebigdog2020 - 03-06-2021 Was expected now confirmed, Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Sport has signed a deal with DAZN for Boxing coverage taking over from Sky Sports. Headlines: * Boxing only on DAZN subscription with no plans in the short term for pay-per-view events. * 5 Year deal * Anthony Joshua not included and has one more fight on Sky and after his team will decide where he will fight * Deal starts on July 31 with three back-to-back weekends of the Matchroom Fight Camp series.
