Considering it's 20 years old, the fact it's SD and it was only in 4:3 on both the BBC and E4 showings, I'd assumed it was made that way, seems unusual for something made for US TV on SD video to have been in 16:9 at that point.
When I saw the pilot it looked really obviously cropped, and pretty terrible looking.

Interesting review of Sky One's most popular programmes, which makes me realise that even though I had access to it for about 10 years of it's existence I think I only ever watched one programme on it, and that's An Idiot Abroad (and even then i only remember watching a few)

Guys, it's just a retooling excercise, as it's been already said..

The channel will continue on both Sky Max and Sky Showcase

I know but that name has existed for 32 years, it's still the end of an era for us

It's a really good read and a reminder that, though most of what I remember of Sky One are the American shows I used to watch every week like Lost and 24, there were quite a few homegrown series I enjoyed at the time like Mad Dogs and then completely forgotten about.

Definitely quite a few more highlights over the years than I would've thought, but then also some reminders of probably the two nadirs of the channel, the awful Beat the Crusher and There's Something About Miriam.

You can see why these changes are being made, with everything Sky One used to do being spread across half a dozen channels now, all of which are shop windows for VOD anyway, but it's a shame to see the name go.

It’s a sad day really, another beacon of my youth being extinguished. Being born in 1990, the one constant of my time growing up for as long as I could remember up until my late teens was, ‘right, new Simpsons, 6pm on Sundays on Sky One’.

Either watching it at a friends or whilst having a late Sunday lunch at home, it was always comforting even as the show itself declined in quality. I haven’t had Sky for a number of years now but I think I’ll be signing up for Now TV tonight just to watch the last episode ever introduced with a Sky One ident.

The final Simpsons episode on Sky One will be The Great Money Caper. The first one on Sky Showcase will be A Tale of Two Springfields.

Another good ident retrospective from the man who made ITV in The Face and Christmas Wrapping, in the same style of the former.

What time is it on Sky Showcase?

It will be on at the same time as on Sky One.

This is TV Live Forum. This is what we do. To do otherwise is not the TV Live Forum way.

Kinda sad to see Nevermind the Buzzcocks lose its trademark magenta colour scheme in the Sky Max trailer - it’s weird that they’ve decided to move away from the sort of gritty underground aesthetic they used to have, and instead make the set look like… Big Brother’s Bit on The Side?

Sky Portfolio Changes - JetixFann450 - 31-08-2021

So I checked the EPG for Sky One onwards tomorrow, and it seems like Sky Max will be Sky One's replacement, not Sky Showcase despite the TV listings mostly stating Sky Showcase is it's replacement. Technically not a new channel, it's just Sky Showcase, a NEW channel, will take Sky One (Sky Max)'s former space.

Odd but fairly understandable.
