Channel 4 are getting some slack on Twitter for moving away so quickly from the news. Rightly so in my optinion.
I was only a child at the time. I am not saying channel four should go all day with rolling coverage, however two or three hours would be more respectful given the significance of the event in the country.
Channel 4 did go into breaking news mode then. Although this video is very long, it shows quite a wide range of coverage, including C4:

As mentioned above looking at all the clips posted in this thread the media must have found out at the moment Buckingham Palace made the announcement with no inkling anything was coming. Sky News would not have had a reporter going on about holidays to then cut to such sombre news but the graphics Sky News are using are very classy
Eamonn and Ruth handled it well for Itv but the start of itv news coverage was not the best with a long pause which I see no reason for and then another big pause after saying a statement had been released but the presenter had probably dashed down from the newsroom with little time before going on air. I doubt they would have been in the studio rehearsing for the Lunchtime News at 12pm
I wonder what notice Downing Street got as the Prime Minister was speaking within 20 mins outside number 10 which also seemed to take Sky News by surprise as they had to fade out Alistair Bruce

Why? If people want to watch it then almost everyone will go to the BBC. A small number of people would watch rolling coverage of C4 so it’s good that they’re offering an alternative. Not everyone wants to watch endless coverage.

Yeah that shot with the dancers still sticks with me today. Kinda freaked me out that it was a still shot rather than the proper ident... But I was only a child so...
