It bothers me that the backdrop for the Marr (as was) news bulletins has *still* never been updated to remove the foreground "swooshes", years after they ceased to be strictly on-brand.
Considering that it's just a CGI image on a screen, rather than anything physically real, the lack of an update is disappointing to say the least.

I wholeheartedly agree. It’s abysmal they’ve not fixed that as much as it’s abysmal they’ve not provided correspondents with the same zoom backgrounds. Nick Witchell is also guilty of using the same, as well as others.
It’s possibly the most easiest of things to do. Beggars belief.

It doesn't need to look identical to E. There is a version that used to be used the few times a year that the programme went out early and a newsreader in London would cover from the desk in studio B. If they really wanted to change it they could and would.

I'll grant people that it isn't the most up to date graphic and hasn't been used by network bulletins in nine years, but it isn't not on brand. It's a virtual newsroom based on the NBH newsroom with a pattern based on the globe that is still in use. At least five regional news studios also still have the Lightwell backdrop + swirl pattern set-up, so its not like this is the sole remnant of that era. It's not like they are using a backdrop with a clamshell pattern on it.
Sure, they could do better, but it only appears on screen for a few seconds a week. Plus, while the BBC have plenty of backdrops of the NBH newsroom ready to go, I wouldn't be surprised if there is someone within the BBC who is hesitant to use a backdrop of the London newsroom for a bulletin that comes from Salford.

Reports from the Daily Mail that the BBC have an all female shortlist for the role - though they clearly don't know who is on that shortlist and just speculate that it include Sophie, Mishal Husain and Laura Kuenssberg with Emma Barnett and Fiona Bruce also possibilities.

It would of course be very challenging to do both.
Being a long-time Americast listener, I personally think his style would suit the Sunday morning show role - but clearly that's not a full-time job in itself. Perhaps, it's becoming clearer now that he will likely replace Laura K.
