ITV really need to think about a full rebrand as ITV Northern Ireland at some point, along with rebranding UTV Live and UTV Life.
It was done to death on TVF (yes Metropol, of course I was still reading, what else do you think I've done for the past 12 months?) but it's a politically sensitive thing. Just call it ITV, and leave the UTV Live/Life names in the way Calendar is still A Thing. If they can sort out things like the "Stormfront" cockup (and that CA is awful anyway - that "down wiv da kidz" style is great for ITV2, but not ITV Original Flavour) then there's no reason it can't work. Just needs a bit more attention to detail on the co-ordination side of things.

It's worth noting that from October 2016, once in vision continuity ended, ALL of UTV's continuity V/Os were recorded. Once playout & transmission moved from Havelock House on 17 Oct 2016, that was always going to be the case.
Also, even if UTV had remained independent, it was very likely that continuity would have become pre-recorded - management had looked at outsourcing playout on several occasions in the late 2000s, particularly as fully automated playout wasn't implemented until 2014 - up to that point all of the transmission/playout was still controlled manually by the Thomson 9920 presentation switcher than first went on air in the late 90s..
The "automation" system that existed up until they moved across to the industry standard Morpheus in 2014 was written by 2 former Thames TV staffers & ran on DOS!

Now here's something unexpected... Next week UTV+1 will be one of the SD services closing on satellite and be replaced with ITV+1 Granada.

Now, if it is going to be listed on the EPG as ITV+1, won't it look a little odd that the main channel is listed as UTV? Will they use the opportunity to change the name to ITV at the same time?
It will also be odd seeing localised adverts for the Granada region in NI.

The Hub does not show View from Stormont, UTV Life, Up Close, Rare Breed, Face to Face with Eamonn Mallie, etc
So all these will get 1 showing only on the main UTV channel and thats it!

Yes, they are on the website but they are in a separate section with no links to it on the homepage. They aren't included on the ITV Hub so you can't search and watch them on your phone/tablet/Sky Q etc.

Hi all!
I don’t understand the ITV logic to this change and instead show ITV (Granada) +1 in the 203 EPG slot.
Surely, local advertisers/sponsors have a bad deal here. If you think of the UTV only shows UTV Life, Rare Breed, UTV weather, etc all (were) sponsored by local business.
Bad enough the local programmes not playing out on 203 in Northern Ireland.
However, I’ve just done a scan (in add channels) on Sky and UTV+1 is still there along with UTV adverts.
Very odd situation. I just hope the UTV brand still is on the channel in some shape or form.

For context this article says there are only four +1 regions on satellite and they're all English so NI is no different to Wales now. STV+1 isn't on satellite either, no ITV substitute there of course.

I get what you are saying. However, UTV region is different - regional programmes are still a thing in the region compared to the rest of the ITV network. Adverts are different - lots of advertisers small print note ‘Not in NI’ or something that really gets annoying - adverts for the likes of Morrison’s which has no stores in Northern Ireland.

STV push the STV Player literally at the end of every programme and every ad break features a plug for STV Player programmes. They did announce a few months ago record-breaking performance for the player. STV+1 is redundant in my mind.

The advert situation won't be any different to any nationally broadcast channel having small print at the bottom of their ads.
Wales also has regional programmes. The overwhelming amount of people who watch regional shows on UTV and in Wales are watching live. If they're going to miss it they can also record it, watch it online or watch it on +1 on Freeview.

I wonder how ITV feel about him using "The UTV" brand name for stuff like this now he no longer works for them??
