Too bad they are cutting Prime to one hour, I've liked their newscast when it started, and have been enjoying Early Edition and Prime the most, Benfield is alright sometimes, when she has an interesting guest or topic. I'm sad the newscasts haven't been high rated, but I didn't they would be, because it seems the cable news audience is more interested in opinions over news it's sad. News Nation has been alright to watch, I understand some of the behind the scenes stuff has been a mess, but they seemed to still be doing good newscasts and balanced programming.
They are going to launch a morning newscast some time soon, kind of strangely think they shouldn't do 24 hours of news, just focus on key times like morning and evening and keep the random reruns of In the Heat of the Night etc as long as they can.

Interestingly, Newsy has just changed its distribution model to become a free-to-air channel. It was previously available on subscription TV services - cable and online.
So it's now possible to watch it on the Newsy website, as well as free streaming TV services like Plex TV.
As a result, the free 'Top Stories by Newsy' streaming channel - which showed repackaged items from the main channel - has now closed.
This has been my first opportunity to see the full channel, and it's not quite what I expected. It has specific programmes like NBC News Now or Cheddar, but seems to repeat a lot of items from the breakfast programme later in the day.
As a result, it feels a bit like a jukebox with lots of chopping and changing between different presenters introducing items - a bit like CBSN when it first launched.

They are currently hiring for nightly shows based in Washington. Who knows what they'll look like, but it seems like Scripps is planning to turn Newsy into a more substantial live streaming news channel.

I wonder if the Ion Media acquisition has to do with this change in the distribution and programming model (no doubt). They are planning to use Ion subchannels (no plans to alter Ion's all off-network programming schedule) to expand their content to OTA television (both those owned by Scripps and those owned by warehousing company Inyo Broadcast Holdings), and in markets where Ion is not present, they will be using subchannels of their network-affiliated stations. This will happen starting October 1. They are also moving their HQ out of Chicago to those of its diginet subsidiary Katz Broadcasting in Atlanta. They will still use their Chicago and Washington studios (designed by Jago Design, btw) and they will build new studios in the premises of Scripps-owned KMGH (Denver) and KNXV (Phoenix), and leverage, as well, their network-affiliated stations.

The NewsNation model may have worked if it launched at the start of the Trump era when every other cable news channel went full on Trump for every single minute he was President.
Nexstar do some great stuff on a local level, WFLA-TV in Tampa is one of my favourite local stations in their portfolio as they do a lot not just on the linear channels, but a ton of material online as well, such as their Tracking the Tropics show during the hurricane season as well as in-vision coverage of local and national events, but NewsNation isn't it and the money would be better spent on investing in their local stations.

I'm not sure which I think is worse: the bezel effect on the logo, or the fast-moving shaky graphics in the titles trying (and failing) to convey pace and urgency. It's like someone dusted off an old project they worked on 15-20 years ago.

Big news coming out of Dallas: ABC affiliate WFAA is moving out of its Victory Park studio and plans to remodel its WFAA Communications Center Studios in Young Street, in the process of redevelopment, in early 2022. NewscastStudio has a inside look at the move.
