It wasn't primarily a spoof of a show, it's a situation for a character to exist in. The fact that situation is a BBC magazine show that's similar to The One Show is irrelevant. It's Alan in a new location and format just like the studio of North Norfolk Digital or his Oasthouse for last years podcast

They've been doing Alan Partridge for 30 years and not run out of jokes to be made yet

I feel that way about Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. The biggest fans of that show always say how they wished it could have had a second series, but to me the concept of that show seems perfectly suited to being a one series thing. I can't imagine there would have been anything left of that genre to parody in a second series, save perhaps for a Christmas special.

I like the idea though of it as a one week event at 7pm on BBC1 and to see if anybody notices the difference.

Thank Christ for that. We all know about the blasted virus; we've been living through it for well over a year. People need escapism, not being constantly reminded about what a terrible situation we're in when we're just trying to relax and watch television. (This is partly why I loathed those awful #StayAtHome & #StaySafe hashtags that Channel 4 used to plaster over the screen, but that's taking us off-topic so I'll leave that there...)

As an aside, there have been many parallels drawn with The One Show, but for me, This Time, with its brunette female host, who sits there powerlessly while her male colleague to her right talks nonsense and digs himself a deeper and deeper hole on air, rather puts me in mind of another show at an earlier time slot on the other side. Let's just say, I wouldn't be surprised to see Alan ranting about Meghan Markle in episode three and having a tense exchange with a meteorologist in episode five... :lol:
