I didn’t like how it introduced the game ‘Game 1 is …’
It sort of ruined the dramatic music buildup effect
Nothing was wrong with Phil yelling ‘GAME 5 IS FOR £50,000!…and THIS is what’s inside The Cube!’
Still miss Trial Run too, it would have given Olly and Joel more of a decision to make

Apart from The Crystal Maze and if it counts Deal or No Deal, I've never found physical gameshows that appealing compared to other type of gameshows as there isn't the play a along factor

When I was younger, Jungle Run was massive - I had to stand up to watch it because I was too fidgety. There’s something so tense about watching people doing things against the clock and that feeling is definitely there in some aspects with shows like The Cube, we saw yesterday how one of the contestants had completed a challenge just after he had run out of time (by a few milliseconds). Some of the challenges can be really boring, like the one where they have to memorise where the red and blue blocks are placed.

Jungle Run being very heavily influenced by Crystal Maze... Of course there is a lot to be said about competing against a time limit and it depends on the quality of the game. The first series of Crystal Maze just effectively blew up some of the cheap tat you get in Christmas crackers as "games" and they were boring to watch. Later years became more elaborate in this regard, with still the odd turkey but they were (on the whole) more interesting to watch.
Fort Boyard is probably one of the most physical gameshows going, most games of which will half knacker anybody, even professional athletes. You're more likely to run out of strength before time in some of those games.

I used to find The Cube quite good fun, but after a few series it started to get quite depressing - there started to appear to be a lot of contestants who didn't want to win the money to go on holiday or get a better car, but needed it to clear debts or other financial problems. Presumably the producers felt this would ratchet up the tension, but I found it a bit miserable and drifted away from the show. I like the celebrity charity specials, because you can just enjoy the games without those depressing financial elements.

The number of games in that and the games themselves where quite good. It can’t have been cheap to make either as it must have took up quite a few studios for the games and that’s not including the whole lift set either. It was a really good gameshow. Of course also have to mention get your own back as well both programs would still work today. I think the last physical game show I remember for children was trapped although I also remember a strange one presented by Les Dennis about 10 year which seemed to be someone wanting to eat children and them doing games to not be eating can’t remember what that was though.

GYOB just boils down to throwing some gunge around. It was always interesting to see Dave Benson Phillips though, and I believe he took (or takes) the format on tour.
