RE: Wimbledon 2022 - bananaman - 04-07-2022 If moving it post-news on BBC1 isn't an option then having Today at.Wimbledon from 21:30-22:30 on BBC2 (with the option of having a shorter version from 22:00 if things badly overrun) would be much better, in my view. That's how they used to do it until the mid to late 2000s but they had no roof on Centre Court back then so play couldn't really go past 9pm. I think that is less palatable for viewers and BBC Two bosses as that would mean Wimbledon coverage for almost 12 hours BBC Two at 9pm seems to be a bigger slot for new programming than BBC One at 10:45pm, so I’d go with the latter for Today at Wimbledon. Question Time can take two weeks off, I’m sure we’d cope. RE: Wimbledon 2022 - Brekkie - 05-07-2022 If evening live coverage is on BBC1 I don't think it matters where the hour long Today at Wimbledon falls and better to schedule other BBC2 programmes at 8pm where they'll air rather than 9pm/9 30pm where they might not. Whilst I've long been an advocate of a post-news Today at Wimbledon I think the most likely change next year is BBC1 coverage going through to 9pm and Today at Wimbledon airing on BBC2 from 9-10pm (with 10-10.30 an option for it when live coverage overruns). Yes, we'd likely still see 9pm shows bumped from BBC1 to BBC2 or live coverage disrupt Today at Wimbledon to an extent but I think it would still be much smoother than this year. P.S. Today at Wimbledon should be safe from now on but with Norrie second on Court 1 today is a chance for the first time the 6pm news may be in danger if it goes beyond three sets. RE: Wimbledon 2022 - GraemeT - 05-07-2022 Schedule it on bbc3....? Surely Wimbledon could feature on there? Yooth like sport? They’ve definitely got capacity for it, just that they will keep the Norrie match on BBC 1 (if it is still going) because of the ratings. That might mean the BBC News at 6 ends up on BBC 2 but they obviously can’t also do that with regional news like they would have 15 years ago. RE: Wimbledon 2022 - Brekkie - 05-07-2022 They kept the first hour of Norrie on BBC2 today with Djokovic two sets down when Norrie came on to court so now Norrie is in a 4th set (and needs a 5th) I suspect it'll end up back there at 6pm, though if this was Murray I'm sure they'd disrupt the news. EDIT: Staying with tennis on BBC1 & 2 - news to follow Norrie match. RE: Wimbledon 2022 - Richard - 05-07-2022 The news is delayed - News Channel has Tim Wilcox doing a standard bulletin. RE: Wimbledon 2022 - Andrew - 05-07-2022 They’ll be hoping it all wraps up in half an hour or else the regions will no doubt be tearing up their running orders if they get given a compressed time slot RE: Wimbledon 2022 - dvboy - 05-07-2022 Wonder if there might be a flash at somepoint as Javid has resigned as Health Sec RE: Wimbledon 2022 - TWO ident - 05-07-2022 With the massive news that the Chancellor has resigned BBC have probably made the wrong call here. RE: Wimbledon 2022 - Andrew - 05-07-2022 They are changing their mind, tennis is moving to two RE: Wimbledon 2022 - japitts - 05-07-2022 I'm not sure what's worse... ripping the schedule up in the first place, or doing a U-turn... RE: Wimbledon 2022 - Brekkie - 05-07-2022 Now torn between wanting Norrie to win but also if he loses this set I can catch the ITV News at 6.30. In many ways BBC1 would have benefitted sticking with the tennis and leading that audience into a later, more prepared, bulletin. Allowing them to go on air with the breaking news. |
