RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Medianext.MX - 17-05-2022 NewscastStudio has published a lengthy report on how the Queen City News theme was made. It was a big challenge: they tried to license a song, but they turned the offer down, as a result, they went with library music. Then, Erik Candiani (former Creative Services Director at WPVI) called out Stephen Arnold Music to do a unique theme for their WPVI-style open (an influence led also by Candiani's time there) and with a cinematic, contemporary, film-laden approach. They are also announcing the theme will be licensed to other markets (maybe a Nexstar corporate theme?), but not before adding additional cuts to it. https://www.newscaststudio.com/2022/05/17/charlotte-queen-city-news-music-package/ RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - W. The new set has the distinctive Nexstar set-in-a-box flair and style, but, in an unexpected departure from normal service, the set was not a BDI design, but it was actually hubbed to Nexstar's set designers at KARK/NBC, and built, in these cases, by a team led by local contractor Lance Schroeder. Tech was handled by DVG and Neoti. With that said, it doesn't look bad. Nexstar is investing in what and when it needs, and this move makes sense; however, their previous set (done by BDI) wasn't actually old-fashioned and didn't have signs of looking dated.Staying with Nexstar stations, WTRF 7 in West Virginia refreshed their studio, graphics and a new logo in early May. Featuring a much detailed set, flat shades of blues and oranges, plus a heavy dose of what looks like Montserrat. This is probably a new set of internal graphics package from Nexstar, as KMID in Midland/Odessa adopted a similar set and rebranded to a symbol harking back their "Big 2" days back in February. RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Omnipresent - 31-05-2022 BBC Studios has announced that it has sold the US rights of its Platinum Jubilee coverage to ABC News. Interesting in the context of BBC News' own deal with CBS News. https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/bbcstudios/2022/bbc-studios-partners-exclusively-abc-news-queens-platinum-jubilee-audiences-us Quote:BBC Studios today announced that it has entered into an agreement with leading broadcaster ABC News to bring the pageantry surrounding Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee to audiences in the United States. ABC News’ popular morning show “Good Morning America” will feature special, weeklong coverage leading up to and including the Jubilee celebration. Both “Good Morning America” and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” will broadcast special editions live from London, beginning Thursday, June 2. Interesting in the context of BBC News' own deal with CBS News. BBC previously have a news sharing agreement with ABC News from 1993 to 2017, allowing each other to sharing news footages and coverage special events, such as Diana's death and Diamond Jubilee, even have a joint correspondent. So, the ABC News coverage of the event by the BBC didn't surprise me. RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Medianext.MX - 13-06-2022 Staying with ABC, big news in the O&O field... The ABC O&Os are about to roll-out a mandated graphics package which has been lurking out in some promos since early 2020. This will involve that ABC's O&Os will do away with their graphics packages (some of which look really bad and dated on-screen) in favor of a new package, designed by Vivid Zero, the motion design division of the SmithGeigner consultancy group; the contract was originally won by Stun Creative, a Hollywood-based creative agency, however, after a takeover and merger done by a strategy and data firm, the contract was taken over by Vivid Zero, thanks to the good relations with ABC by its chief director, Michael Vamosy. Vivid Zero also did the current ABC News Special Report, ABC News Live and Good Morning America graphics, so it made sense to award the contract with an agency which has had some kind of great track record with the Alphabet. The roll-out of the mandated graphics won't affect the station's individual music packages, most of which come from Warner/Chappell Music (the legal successor of Gari Music, who composed these themes); WPVI, fortunately, will retain the well-known MCTYW theme viewers know and love. The first glimpse of the real graphics come from WLS/Chicago, which has rolled out the weather package. The graphics have a flatter style (in the style taken by Hearst's graphics), a mobile-style design and Proxima Nova as font. Images are on spoiler as they are lots of pics. Sourced from TVNewsTalk. RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - AxG - 13-06-2022 Why does every box not align with every other box? RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Mouseboy33 - 13-06-2022 Because they animate and will lengthen depending on the segment being presented and how long the title is, rather just a long weird blank box that goes across the entire screen. Its not something most people typically notice. This is going to be a very clean package for WLS. And yes its flat. But its very modern and strips away the current light flares and shiny bits on the current package. I will be interesting to see if they drop the swooshing sound between segment transitions. Those weather graphics are typically loaded into their weather graphics system. So they are not created by the graphics department typically. So each meteorologist wiill create their own...."PowerPoint" or weather show, for lack of a better term, for each broadcast. So after the graphics package has been created it get loaded and the graphics dept is typically no longer involved, day to day with the weather graphics. (Unless they need something special) RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Medianext.MX - 17-06-2022 Nexstar has unveiled a new internal graphics package which looks... worse than all the other packages made by their Nashville-based internal creative division, led by Rey Rodriguez (known to industry insiders as Linear Drift). The package was designed for WRIC, a Nexstar-owned ABC affiliate in Richmond, Virginia; and replaces a repurposed package originally made by Giant Octopus for fellow station KOIN 6 in Portland, used after the station was bought by Media General. With the new graphics, WRIC replaced Guardian with Aerial (one of the more budget Stephen Arnold Music themes); and Paul Turner was replaced, as VO, by the much lesser-known and less experienced Tim Dadabo, even if he's well-known in the animation and video game circles, he has less experience in the local TV news business. NewscastStudio has the inside story on the new graphics. RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Brekkie - 23-06-2022 That feels quite ITV circa 2003. RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Sky303 - 27-06-2022 Newsnation has launched their 6am ET hour called "Early Morning" today, they hired a new anchor named Mitch Carr, who will also be part of "Morning in America" the show uses the newsroom studio that's also used for "Morning in America" , "Rush Hour" and the weekend editions of "Prime" RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Medianext.MX - 08-07-2022 WJZY has tweaked the Queen City News logo after being threatened with legal action from rival WBTV. The Gray-owned station accused Nexstar of the QCN logo looking too similar to that of its advertorial mid-morning program QC Life. The logo quietly launched at the end of last month, and looks disgustingly bad compared to its predecessor. They also dropped the Carolina's Own tagline from the opens (no word if formally). However, and fortunately, no changes graphics, music and talent-wise. RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Medianext.MX - 14-07-2022 Big news for the CBS O&Os: NewscastStudio has obtained a first look at how the new mandated graphics, which are being put in line with the CBS brand designed by Gretel (and since developed by CBS teams in-house), will look like. This roll-out coincides with the launch of an attempt of a centralized local news offering for the non-CBS-affiliated sister O&Os, which are either CW or MyNetworkTV-affiliated, or are independent stations. The offerings will leverage the common brand name “Now”, varying in regards to the market: stations co-owned with a CBS station are being named CBS News (city) Now; whilst standalone stations will brand their newscasts as (City) Now News. In most stations, the new programs will replace existing 10pm newscasts and/or centralized out-of-market productions; additionally, all newscasts will be partially hubbed to other CBS stations, specially these with no sister news operations. https://www.newscaststudio.com/2022/07/13/cbs-news-now-local-newscasts/ RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Medianext.MX - 16-07-2022 Not related to any of the network affiliates, but still related to local news... in an unexpected move, Spectrum Networks has decided to put the Dallas-Fort Worth version of Spectrum News 1 available to OTA viewers, after signing a local marketing agreement with Weigel Broadcasting, which owns former Azteca America O&O KAZD/55; as a result, Weigel diginet MeTV was moved from DT1 to DT2. Quite an unexpected move from Charter, which has long relegated the local news channels it inherited from Time Warner Cable to its local cable subscribers (except NY1, long available also on Altice systems in the city outskirts and upstate NJ); a practice it had maintained with the new channels they launched in SoCal, Kentucky, Wisconsin, western New England and the aforementioned Dallas version. https://www.dallasnews.com/business/2022/07/14/spectrum-news-1-to-broadcast-over-the-air-on-kazd-tv/ It looks like Spectrum is trying to expand the reach of its news channels, as earlier this month they eliminated the local restrictions to access each news channels, as they were made available to users of Spectrum's new TV app offerings nationwide. It is a smart move by Spectrum, allowing out-of-market users to get news from other US regions where they have local news offerings. Spectrum has been really good in expanding the reach of the Spectrum News brand and making it relevant to a new, younger audience, retaining the essentials of its non-tabloid and human interest journalism, but dispensing the rolling news format which made the channel's identity in favor of longer form news slots during peak times; they have done a particular great job in SoCal, differentiating itself from the gamut of tabloid and police chase-led journalism which often penetrates most LA news offerings. RE: ABC, CBS, FOX and other news channels from the USA. - Brekkie - 18-07-2022 Is another round of primetime hearings for the Jan 6th committee on Thursday with networks clearing their schedules once again.
