Challenge - Juicy Joe - 18-03-2022 I've recently noticed a few programmes on Challenge show quick sub-second flash of a Sky trailer for another programme, just before the programme returns from the advertising break. This is apparent on the afternoon showings of Blankety Blank & recent Classic Millionaires, since they came back onto the channel. It lasts literally less than 0.2 seconds - as though the programmes being shown have been recorded from previous Challenge airings and now being played again, rather than the master tapes being used? Has anyone else noticed this and the reasoning for it? Certainly not. My box isn't capable of playing targeted ads - it just shows the ads & content from the broadcast aerial signal, nothing fancy, no internet involved, just an aerial wire plugged into the back. You mean Adsmart? https://www.adsmartfromsky.co.uk/how-sky-adsmart-works/ It is supported on Challenge but won't work outside of Sky (obviously). Anyway I think Adsmart is more transparent than the "crash" being discussed. Apparently its not noticeable. It won't be on purpose - possibly Sky feed different trailers to different platforms, but the synchronisation is very slightly out of step, so you briefly see a flash of what was on the main feed "underneath" the trailer you just saw on your own platform. OR it could be misbehaving automation giving a flash of something from another source which finished playing earlier - S4C used to have that problem for a while. Some of the home entertainment equipment was Saisho branded, which I understand to be a Dixons own-brand, but they've had a Logik VCR as Bully's Special Prize recently. I assumed this was related to the current Logik brand that exists in Currys, but according to Wikipedia, that brand didn't exist until the late 90s. Was it a completely different brand that just happened to have the same name? Wikipedia knows nothing. Logik was a Currys house brand at least as early as the late 1980s, if not before.

I've removed the but about Logik launching then, since we know 2001 is wrong but can't prove the correct year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixons_Retail#logik Challenge - CameronYoung - 01-04-2022 This afternoon, Challenge have 3 hours of a programme called "Happy Birthday Phillip Schofield!". Clicking the Info reveals it's actually 3 episodes of The Cube in place of Family Fortunes and Blankety Blank. Surely they should've put the birthday message in the description? ![]()
Challenge - Brekkie - 01-04-2022 You wouldn't be posting though if it just said three hours of The Cube on the EPG. That's quite clever really from them - grabs your attention when scrolling through. Challenge - Neil Jones - 01-04-2022 Well that'll screw up your planner stacking if nothing else. Because every "new" title (or fictional one) recorded causes the Sky boxes to think its an entirely different show. Because every "new" title (or fictional one) recorded causes the Sky boxes to think its an entirely different show. It is possible to do it properly, but it depends on how the channel has sent the EPG data. The Sky EPG has two titles for each programme - the one that you see, and a hidden 'real' name that is used for grouping and ordering listings. The most obvious example of where these should be different is when a programme is titled, say, 'New: The Simpsons', but is sort-titled as 'Simpsons, The' - in that case the programme should stack in your planner together with the other non-New episodes of 'Simpsons, The'. That also means that you should find 'The Simpsons' just through typing 'S' in the search box, rather than 'T' for THE Simpsons, or 'N' for 'NEW The Simpsons'. But it does depend on the channel doing it properly. Not all can, or do. RE: Challenge - IanJRedman - 18-04-2022 Apologies if this has already been mentioned - does anyone know what's happening during 4:3 shows on Challenge? They're 4:3 pillarboxed in a 16:9 frame, so the aspect ratio on the programme itself is correct - but the DOG and any other channel graphics look wrong. It looks like they should be in 4:3 but they're being stretched to 16:9? Combined with the flash frames at the end of breaks, there are some strange things happening in Challenge playout... |
