More often the case it is the third pundit who is surplus to requirements.

Re:F1 graphics refresh.
New timing fonts, a weird duel animating replay wipe, and the F1 logo dog, is now part of the timing tower graphic at top left, rather than bottom left where it's always been since the introduction of it in Brazil 2002.

The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 19-03-2022

Italy had to go and get their scalp against us didn't they, but from a broadcast point of view the split has given that moment the reaction it deserves whilst had the one broadcaster had the two matches back to back they'd have probably cut off quite quickly, though maybe not quite as soon as they intended, to move on to the build up to the next match. The Six Nations needed that though.

Proves though the broadcaster shouldn't be awarding Man of the Match with 3 minutes to go.

Indeed. Here are some snippets from full race graphics. They come from the TV brand guidelines as obtained by a French motorsport magazine:

Is anyone watching Middlesbrough/Chelsea on BBC One? Is it my imagination or is the sound quality quite poor? Commentary is getting buried under the crowd noise, and Jermaine Jenas also sounds like he's stood in a bathroom...?

Somewhat controversial coverage of this story on the BBC’s coverage of the World Indoor Athletics today. A clarification had to be issued after the initial announcement and for some reason the producers decided to ask Jeanette to get the views from two pundits who are serving athletes and teammates and can’t really comment. It was awkward viewing.

I see that Channel 4 got new titles and refreshed graphics for their Formula 1 coverage. They look really nice as they do try to have it look somewhat aligned with the official FOM graphics. Do they look similar to their Formula E Coverage?

Have Sky F1 got new graphics along with their new titles?

F1 grid now goes last to first.

Sound mix on the intro music still appalling

How the hell do ITV continue with Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon when they have Clive and Andy McCoist on the books....

Loved Lee telling us that "it has been years since Liverpool have played at Wembley".....they literally won the league Cup a few weeks ago there.

The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 20-03-2022

I don't mind Sam Matterface but I'd struggle to name a co-commentator worse than Lee Dixon.

I just don't think they work compared to Clive & Ally, for the first time in my life I wouldn't have anything to complain about ITV football coverage if they had Clive & Ally as number 1 commentary lineup with their current studio coverage which has really improved in recent years with additions of Keane, Wright & Pougatch. It used to be ITV commentary was very good with Tyldesley, Drury & Champion but studio wasn't as good but it's gone the other way round now.

For example I remember watching ITV 2006 Football World Cup coverage and for the Australia v Japan match had the late great Shane Warne as pundit, fine for Cricket not for football and the way they got rid of Gabby Logan left a bad taste in the mouth, Steve Rider never wanted to do football either and they did the same with him in 2010

Hugh Cahill is presenting Against The Head on RTÉ2 tonight. Is this his 1st time presenting it?

The Sport Thread - Rdd - 21-03-2022

I’ve never seen him present it - in latter years it’s usually been Daire O’Brien. Joanne Cantwell often did it before she took over the the lead GAA role though.

Can't say I watch it every week but first time seeing Hugh Cahill present but he did a great job, as RDD stated Joanne Cantwell hosted before she started presenting GAA and Con Murphy did it before her. Daire was listed on RTE Press to be presenting tonight as with the EPG so assume Hugh Cahill was a last minute replacement.

Also speaking of Rugby, RTE had 3 matches on Saturday with Munster in the URC, then Wales v Italy and France v England. Hugh Cahill did the England match and Des Curran did the Wales match but Football Presenter (sometimes commentator) & GAA Commentator Darragh Maloney did the Munster match, was this the first time he has commentated on Rugby?
