The LA Time reported the scoop first and the article indicated that channel would launch with a conservative slant. They tried to recruit black conservative commentator Larry Elder to host a evening programme. That was a glaring mistake from the beginning. HQ the channel in Tallahassee, FL was a huge error. They were unlikely to attract any real talent the Florida panhandle. They tried to relocate to Atlanta but it was too little to late. Oh well. Sahid Khan a major investor is owner of Fulham Football Club and the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL.

ABC's Good Morning America is back after the Oscars with a new set on the former audience studio (the second floor of their Times Square studios). Unlike other ABC studios lately, I am really liking what they did with the new set. It has that morning feel without losing many of the OTT elements from ABC's recent designs, even if they did tone down that a bit. It looks like they are ditching the audience element from the second hour.

Additionally, the show's presentation was overhauled. It retains the elements of the former package around a circle device, but has a much brighter style and Avenir as font instead of Proxima Nova.

The new GMA second floor looks nice. It's a shame it's not used for both hours. They should just put a news desk in the middle of it, where those chairs are, and use it for the first hour as well. It would look better than that cramped set up they still use for the first hour which was bad from the start.

They've definitely upped their game. I particularly like the area with the sofa in front of the one remaining exposed section of windows - it reminds me of part of some of the nicer sets they've had in the past.

PBS News Hour's weekend version has changed production from New York City and WNET-TV to Washington DC and WETA, who produce the weekday version. The newscast has changed anchors and rebranded from PBS News Hour Weekend to PBS Weekend News. The Weekend News Hour / PBS Weekend News has always been 30 minutes since it launched in 2013.

They are finally using a Times Square set the way it should be used. Took them a whole to do it. CBS should watch and learn.

WEWS (Cleveland, ABC aka the C5 lookalike) is probably the latest one to receive the flat ABC logo treatment with revamped openers. The old look still appears interchangably though, including the watermark.

Another WGN/NewsNation personality has been poached by WBBM/CBS News Chicago and their saving grace Jennifer Lyons. Joe Donlon, a former longtime KGW personality, and who was hired by Lyons when at WGN to fill the post of retiring Chicago TV legend Mark Suppelsa, later to join NewsNation, has been hired to co-anchor the main evening news with Irika Sargent. Brad Edwards is being demoted as anchor of CBS News Chicago's streaming network, whilst remaining as investigative reporter. This is the third big hiring made by Lyons, who's trying to turn around the fortunes of the low-rated O&O, having poached Albert Ramon from WGN and Marshall Harris from fellow Paramount O&O KOVR/Sacramento.

Yeah. She will becoming prominent people in CBS News, especially after the rebranding of CBSN as CBS News Streaming Network in late January.

Nexstar has unveiled a new set for its CBS affiliate in Indianapolis, WTTV 4. The new set has the distinctive Nexstar set-in-a-box flair and style, but, in an unexpected departure from normal service, the set was not designed by neither Nexstar's in-house set designers (hubbed at KARK/NBC in Little Rock) nor by FX. It is reportedly a BDI design. With that said, it doesn't look bad. Nexstar is investing in what and when it needs, and this move makes sense; however, their previous set (also done by BDI) wasn't actually old-fashioned and didn't have signs of looking dated.

And some big news over at the PBS Newshour: Judy Woodruff is retiring from anchoring duties after the midterm elections (expected by early next year). This is according to internal off-the-record sourcing by digital subscription enterprise paper Puck, as well as reputed industry media Variety and Deadline/Hollywood. She will continue doing special reports until at least the next presidential election. After her retirement, the show will transition back to double-headed presentation (the first time since Jim Lehrer's gradual retirement and the late Gwen Ifill teaming up with Woodruff), with chief correspondents Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett being promoted as co-anchors. Nawaz also serves as main fill-in for Woodruff, and Bennett currently hosts PBS News Weekend, for which production was taken just last month by WETA (from WNET). The changes won't affect the Western edition of the program, partially produced out of KAET in Phoenix (handled by Cronkite News/Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication).

Update on this... NewscastStudio has published a lengthy report on the new set, and has said that the set was not a BDI design, but it was actually hubbed to Nexstar's set designers at KARK/NBC, and built, in these cases, by a team led by local contractor Lance Schroeder. Tech was handled by DVG and Neoti. They also uploaded a gallery.

With that said, Nexstar's team has done one of their best set designs in recent years. It confirms the very infamous "Dalek Desk" period is a long way away.
