I can’t see GB withdrawing from the games, had they been allowed to compete under their own flag or the RPC, then yes I could see something happening. But it’s the pinnacle of many of those competing career and it wouldn’t be fair to let Russia ruin that for them. And yes I understand the situation in Ukraine is far more important in the grand scheme things. But yes if GB did threaten to pull out, perhaps that would change the minds of the IPC.

I don’t think it will change the minds of the IPC as they said yesterday they accept teams could withdraw but their hands are tied legally. They have also gone into lengthy details about changes they will make post games to give them the legal power to do so in the future.

It might end up with that as the IPC could u turn knowing it would likely be over turned as it’s easier to stop people boycotting if they can blame CAS for not allowing them to do it.

This midweek round of the FA Cup isn’t great for neither football viewers or non football viewers, can someone with more knowledge than me explain how it has come about, is it a regular thing now, or a one off this year due to the World Cup or Covid or something?

The FA wanted a winter break, but the Premier League weren't keen on giving up a weekend matchday, so this was the compromise

The leagues can continue to play on the weekends whilst 8 teams play in mid-week and then the weekend. It's less of an issue for the quarter-finals and semi-finals when it's fewer teams, easily managed.

It was the 2019-20 season that the 5th Round moved to midweek and at the time the idea was to remove fixture congestion as replays were scraped and give the clubs a winter break.

Does mean BBC and ITV will have to make picks for the World Cup without knowing if matches are Scotland (or possibly Wales) rather than Ukraine or (Possibly) Austria,

They made their picks for Euro 2020 without knowing if Scotland will qualify so I guess that won't be that much of a major issue for them.
Meanwhile the RFU will appeal to CAS the decision to ban the men's and women's national team from Russia from competing.

They did for Euro 2020, Scotland and Northern Ireland had play offs which were supposed to be held in March 2020 and then weren't held until later in the year due to covid but BBC/ITV published their picks and schedule in December 2019.

I suspect the picks can be made quite late though ITV have advertising sales to consider. The justification for the draw being made so late, and even then the exact fixture slots won't be confirmed immediately, is that Qatar is so small it's easy enough to travel around so teams, fans and broadcasters don't need to make plans on which city they'll be in.
If the delay is agreed I'd kind of hope the Wales match is also delayed so both teams in the play off final have the same momentum of having won a game a few days earlier. Has there been any news on what's happening regarding the Russian match yet - will the opposition (Poland?) just get a bye into their final or is the next best runner up taking their place?
