I hope it's all just being popped into storage for a bit rather than disposed of Wish I went down, I was working unfortunately! Would’ve loved to have grabbed a few cue cards. The show sounded fun and looked fun from what I saw through the gate in the front garden.Isn't that basically how they did things in the early days before the Planet 24 building was built? The BIG Breakfast - L1 - 10-09-2021 I agree and a great pairing in AJ and Mo. I admit I felt slightly dubious when her name was announced, as I remember her stint on Big Brother (years ago I know) but she has really improved and was very good today The BIG Breakfast - soupie - 10-09-2021 The show had a really great vibe today- and the sort of positivity that people perhaps want now more than ever. I just can’t see how C4 could bring it back full time though given the obvious expense. I think it would be need to be getting 400-500k viewers every day for it to be viable commercially, and I’m not sure they’re there. The BIG Breakfast - Brekkie - 10-09-2021 What sort of figure does C4 get in the morning slot at the moment? There is definitely an audience to steal from Breakfast, GMB and radio - and only a small fraction from each, plus C4's existing audience, soon adds up. Whether it adds up to enough is another question. The BIG Breakfast - Steve in Pudsey - 10-09-2021 stewart_scott post_id=38796 time= user_id=1132 Wrote:That was very good indeed. Was it perfect? No, but then again could you ever describe the original as perfect? No, that was why I and many people loved it. The chaos, the madness and the pure happiness of it. It was a stellar job by everyone involved, we need some more of that please and I have no doubt it will be back at some point. I agree with everything you say here. Some minor disappointments in places, I'd have liked some of the retro features to have had the surrounding production (eg One Lump or Two needed introducing better and really needed the proper bed, the Superhints bit didn't have the sting etc) but in general it was great. The BIG Breakfast - DeMarkay - 10-09-2021 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbL25PKwtsQ The BIG Breakfast - Brekkie - 10-09-2021 A few more thoughts after taking a second look this evening, mainly on the presentation aspect. Firstly the whole show was so good we barely mentioned the clock, but it was rather hideous. They rarely got it right during the original version either though - like with so many elements of the show is was consistent for the first few years then ever changing for the last few. The white strap was probably the best version. I think the version used today might have looked better if the strap was translucent rather than solid. I really liked the concept of the bumpers - it did seem odd though that for the first hour they were consistent with a pink logo but then it changed with every break for the second hour. Always looked good though and with them limited to the two bumpers changing the logo kept them fresh. Agree with Steve about a lack of stings and One Lump or Two could have done with the song, and actually playing the rules as implied by the name - you have a decision to make after getting one lump whether to gamble a smaller prize for a bigger prize. Finally the last 15 minutes was just odd - they began wrapping up at 9.46 with 10 minutes of the show left. In the old days that would have been long enough for one or two features, a news bulletin and probably a final throw back on the road. It just sucked the energy out of the last few minutes really, but AJ padded really well. Was a shame too not to have proper credits but watching again I see all the presenters were credited under their individual roles, with Mo credited as "Presenter and Creative Consultant" and AJ just as "Presenter". Overall if that is all we end up getting I think we can be happy enough with it, but it really highlighted what TV, and C4 especially, needs. The BIG Breakfast - JasonB - 10-09-2021 The Friday Song was mentioned in articles but not done this morning. I wonder if it was actually part of the show or they had to ditch it for time like they used to do if they ran over or occasionally Harry would speed up at the end if they were limited for time. Having Lisa Mafia perform 21 seconds at the end harks back to the final show in 2002 where So Solid Crew we’re famously late. The BIG Breakfast - Steve in Pudsey - 10-09-2021 Talking of the credits, no mention of the ITN team producing the news. I actually wondered (until the end of the show) if Phil was down the line from Germany, as I believe he works for DW News out there. He left his desk on screen and joined them at the end. The BIG Breakfast - scottishtv - 10-09-2021 It's hard to believe Channel 4 chose a packed lunch over a big breakfast. The BIG Breakfast - Fanoftv - 10-09-2021 Well I’ve finally got around to watching it and I echo everyone’s comments on here of how brilliant it was, especially for a one off show, that to me did not feel like a one off at all - as in it started as though it was just another edition of a long running show. The whole cast brought liveliness and enthusiasm to the whole show and you could clearly tell that they were fans of the original. I can see why the scripts on clip boards were used for most of the shows run (possibly due to lack of technology too) but the autocue seemed to slow them down and mess with the flow. Some bits were messy around the edges, but that’s what made it so much fun to watch, and you cannot blame anybody in front or behind the camera as they have only had this one edition to work together. I feel that some parts felt a little rushed, but then they were left padding a little at the end, but again it (and let’s hope) it became a rolling production then these sort of things would be ironed out. I think the house looked amazing, bringing the famous vibrancy of the original with some modern twists, and it worked well, after all the 90s is back in at the moment. The updated layout seems to be a little restrictive compared to old, but as was said earlier in the thread, the widescreen cameras make it less easy to hide corners and make it feel smaller, especially the kitchen/dining/old hall way. Overall, I felt entertained throughout the whole show, AJ was the shining star, skilfully traversing through the many segments of the show, and it was a great example of how the show (or a similar format) could potentially return, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who would rather wake up to something entertaining than news or debate. Well done all involved. |
