The ABC O&O live news streams have been around for a while, but they used to show barkers when the news bulletins weren't on-air.

As I type, WABC is showing a repeat of last night's Eyewitness News instead of their morning bulletin bizarrely, while WPVI in Philadelphia is showing a pre-recorded weather show.

A bit excluded due to the on-going developments in Ukraine, but CBS is starting to merge its CBS Local websites (since heavily toned down after their radio stations were taken over by Entercom/Audacy) into the CBS News website and app, a move that makes sense given the O&Os are now merged into the fold of the news division and their own news departments are being rebranded to align with the new CBS News brand. The first to do so, as a test, is WCBS-TV, with the design clearly matching the CBS News website and prioritizing the CBS News Streaming local service:

Fox Weather, still trying to find its feet, is on a hiring spree. They are building up "bureaus" at Fox O&Os to deliver additional hours of coverage and severe weather, beginning with WOFL 35 in Orlando, acting a as Southeast weather hub with Katie Garner and Kelly Costa (from Nexstar's WWLP) at the helm. They're slowly increasing the hours of live weather programming (after being cut back due to Omicron-related issues) and adding some filler programming (like Fox Nation's non-political, travel-related show Park'd, with Abby Hornacek) to pad time, specially on weekends, as well as expanding into diginet coverage on WNYW (NYC), KRIV (Houston), KTVU (Bay Area) and simulcast hours on MyNetworkTV O&Os, FTS indies and the Fox Business Network weekend mornings, as well as vMVPD distribution on YouTube TV, Amazon News, FuboTV, and The Roku Channel, with more to come.

But Fox Weather's strong pedigree is the ability to cover severe weather no matter what day it is and what type of severe weather is, specially in weekends, where The Weather Channel is only broadcasting Natural Drama long-form programming, with its coverage restricted to breakaway zones. And this pedigree has caused a surprise hiring: Bryan Norcross is leaving WPLG/Local 10 to join the Murdoch empire.

CBS -WBBM got the site last week https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/ this is reminding of how the ITV regions sites are folded into the main ITV news site.

Actually, he was on TWC since 2010, where he led instrumental changes in their presentation, including new, sharper graphics and a more urgent presentation; he also led the strongly controversial initiative of naming winter storms like hurricanes, an initiative contested by the NWS and weather and science experts and organizations, and still causes heavy controversy as its use hasn’t been de-emphasized. Beforehand, he was hurricane specialist over at CBS News, and even before, he had a stint at WFOR when they switched frequencies with WTVJ, it was at the latter station where he would become an hurricane institution, leading uninterrupted coverage of Hurricane Andrew’s landfall in Miami, from which he won many accolades and made the highest ratings for WTVJ since the implementation of WSVN’s tabloid news.

As I said, he left TWC in 2019 in the midst of changes after Byron Allen bought the channel and IBM the reporting and digital side, and he approached the time to return to WPLG as a comeback to the station he began working as hurricane specialist in 1983, after producing and reporting stints at WXIA, KUSA, WLKY, KGO, CNN and TBS.

Can't see anything noted about this already in this thread but GMA have updated their set from to get rid of the odd corridor effect behind the anchor desk. They seem to change the set every 18 months so not surprised it's been tweaked again. Newscast has further coverage of the changes: https://www.newscaststudio.com/2022/03/14/gma-set-updates-31422/

The article about the GMA set changes suggests that the new curved wall behind the desk is likely to be temporary and that more changes are on the way to both the upstairs and downstairs studios.

I hope that's the case - this latest look and the version it's evolved from feel a bit lifeless to me, compared with designs they've had in the past.

Since I do keep track of NewsNation , they are making more changes:

Their morning show, "Morning in America" which currently airs from 7-10am Eastern will be expanding in June to 6-10AM Eastern, the 6am hour currently is reruns of off-network dramas.

Earlier this month, the weekend version of "News Nation Prime" expanded back to 3 hours 7-10pm Eastern.

Weekday changes are being made, since the Invasion of Ukraine, News Nation has been running a special live programme at 11pmet with Prime anchor , Marni Hugues, and "On Balance" host Leland Vittert, both are still doing their own programmes, this has been made permeant

Also of original 3 weekday anchors, Marni Hughes is the last one standing, Joe Donlon is leaving the network, his show ends on 25 March, and will be replace by a 2nd hour of Rush Hour (an evening news programme) from 5-7pm Eastern starting 28 March.

On the 28th of February , they swapped "Dan Abrams Live" and "NewsNation Prime" 's hours Dan at 9 eastern, Marni at 8pmET.

Old news now... but Tegna is going private. After pressure from activist shareholder Soohyung Kim, owner and founder of Standard General, including a unsuccessful attempt to nominate four members to the company's board of directors and accusations of issues with diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as the company underperforming, the company has announced its assets are being taken over by both Standard and Apollo Global Management (through Cox Media Group) for $24 per-share ($5.4 billion).

The process, largely done by Soohyung Kim's company, will be resulting in a new company controlled by a Standard-affiliated company, which will be retaining the Tegna name, with Apollo, Cox and other investors holding non-voting shares in the company. Dave Lougee will be replaced by both Mr. Kim (acting as chairman) and Deborah McDermott, the person which led the merger between Media General and Young Broadcasting, and currently CEO of being-dissolved Standard Media (Community News Media LLC), whose four stations (including WLNE in Providence/New Bedford and KLKN in Lincoln, NE) will be resold to Cox Media Group; in exchange, the company will sell WFXT/Boston to a Standard-affiliated company, the basis of a new broadcast group they are creating. After the transaction is over, Cox will buy WFAA, KHOU and KVUE from Tegna, and the latter will spin-off Premion, their digital sales division, as a separate company jointly owned by both Cox and Tegna.

WJZY/Fox Charlotte has just unwrapped a new, custom theme music for its Queen City News broadcasts, from Stephen Arnold Music. It replaces production music used during the first two months of the rebranded, upgraded newscast. The new theme also allowed for updated versions of the WPVI-like opens, in time for Spring. Beau Weaver is retained as the voice-over talent for the opens, whilst Steve Kamer is still doing teases. In a side, but also related note, WJZY has transitioned fully to Fox Charlotte branding outside the station's newscasts, after a period alternating both Fox 46 and Fox Charlotte branding.

Have a clean listen to the great new theme package from Stephen Arnold for WJZY just posted on News Music Search Archive. I sure the first few seconds are clipped. But its even better than I thought. I think the mid section is brilliant from :36 onward. Then it builds and soars from :50 into a crescendo. Its got a driving beat in the background throughout. I love a strong soaring theme. It feels big and important and it has a brilliant memorable signature. Sadly WSZY - Charlotte, NC made a complete dogs dinner with that open. http://www.newsmusicsearcharchive.com/#3,1,2479

Well BNC will cease operations soon. I always figured it would have trouble retaining a large enough viewing audience to be sustainable.
