Martine did really well with the formal announcement, it sent a shiver down my spine

And took off her necklace (that she'd just been joking about 5 minutes earlier) as well. Rapid change in tone - clearly no inkling before 12.

What better way to promote women's sport? Trailed properly, this could rival the 2018 World Cup's viewing figures.

I notice STV have taken their DOG off, would this be related to what happened or just a coincidence?

I know people in charge have come and gone since 19 years ago but I'm surprised the BBC are suspending One and Two for so long given how "laid back" they wanted the Queen Mother's news to be. I won't be too surprised to see a lot of complaining from Twitter for the extensive coverage. Then again, in this Twitter age, there'll be plenty of people who feel it's not worth reporting at all.

Oh I didn't know Radio 1 are also going with the Radio 4 simulcast? I wasn't expecting that.

Thank you! I do vaguely remember the coverage with Peter Sissons. Being at that age I was a little bit confused at the stuff that was going on. It was a weird time!

I would say it's been handled very well this time around.

Interesting, just watched the last ad break on ITV3 and there was no mention.
Well I saw it on ITVBE just before the end of the ad break.

Finally caught it:

Kind of odd that there's not one on ITV3, given their audience will probably care the most

I bet a few people choked on their tea watching ITV when they heard "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen..."

Remember all these schedules are just a holding position until they've figured out which "normal" programmes they can safely run (i.e. by someone quickly spooling through them to check the script…) I'd expect a handful of things later, e.g. Gardeners' World on BBC TWO.

Today is a reminder that Netflix, Amazon Prime, Twitter, Facebook, Mail Online etc. are no substitute for the BBC and other TV and radio broadcasters when it comes to moments of historic significance.

Just watching the BBC break the news at 12.05. Martine Croxall clearly shaken by the news but did a superb job - and a little bit of emotion did no harm at all. A black cardigan quickly added to her outfit after she broke the news too. Notice Huw hasn't gone for a crimson tie, but a full on purple tie and suit combo.

I don't know if it's the same as the one you saw earlier, but interestingly the slide on Channel 5+1 currently, is the old branding (pre Jan 2020) in style.

Unconfirmed reports that tonight’s The Circle final will not go ahead.

It sounds like that wasn't the case on TV and BBC1 left a few minutes behind.
I had radio (via BBC Sounds) and BBC One (via iPlayer) on after getting an app alert, and both broke into programmes pretty much simultaneously, and even reached the national anthem at the same time.
