More news from Germany!
There will be a redesign at RTL. In the following trailer, a logo change is announced. The trailer also says that the redesign will take place on September 15th - the same day when ZDF has it´s redesign!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSwnAe2AKeo
With the new logo come some new colours. The iconic red-yellow-blue combination is abandoned and there is no longer a fixed colour concept. The colours are chosen individually depending on the promoted show. Unlike ZDF, we don´t know what the new presenation will look like, though.
The announced date could also be a hint to when RTL aktuell´s redesign (the show will move to a real set) could take place. Keeping the old design would not make sense for obvious reasons.

That was announced some time ago, for all RTL operations in Europe.

it's good it's finally taking place

Outside of Germany, Austria and Switzerland it's mostly just for the corporate look though. RTL Nederland, Luxembourg and Belgium always had ther own identities and Hungary and Croatia keep the Red, Yellow, Blue logo ... for now at least.

As far as I’m aware, it’s being rolled out across ALL RTL brands. Corporate is first, followed by Germany, then it’ll be rolled out elsewhere. The idea behind the move is to tackle exactly what you just raised - different RTLs in different territories doing their own thing. That worked in predigital days, but RTL is now keen to be seen as a single global brand competing with the big on demand services.

Correct, everything owned by RTL will get the same branding eventually, apart from standalone channels with strong brands (e.g. VOX, N-TV); Super RTL will be completely removed from RTL branding and become Toggo.

The same principle will be applied to all other countries with RTL property.

Seems pretty interesting to see Super RTL get axed, although granted they seemed to treat it as a chore than anything they really promoted/engaged with.

I've always thought Toggo would've made better sense as a 24/7 children's service since Super RTL isn't really the brand name for that programming anymore, plus that's where RTL sees more value in.

But what about primetime? It is a requirement to air "family programming" during primetime, but currently the slot is just mostly American police procedurals, which would clash with the philosophy of the Toggo brand to target kids and families.

There’s no such requirement ? the licence is for an entertainment channel.

The current mix of programming works very well and will remain. Toggo has become a strong brand in general due to Toggo Plus and the Toggo radio station.

So the decision was taken to extent the Toggo branding into the evening and overnight period rather than have two different brands effectively causing there to be two channels.

Thank you very much indeed.

Staying with the RTL Deutschland rebrand, the other big rebrand is coming at sister channel RTLplus, which will be renamed RTL UP, so their brand does not conflict with that of RTL+ (the renamed TVNOW, which will also merge with RTL Radio's subscription podcast offering AUDIO NOW and Gruner+Jahr's digital subscription service, after the publishing company was integrated into the RTL Group fold) and putting it in line with VOX's sister channel VOX UP, both serving as classic TV channels focusing on content from both brands.

Details from German specialised publication DWDL.

I haven’t made up my mind about RTL Up yet haha. Of course it aligns with VOX Up but considering the channel’s main audience is 50+ I don’t know about having something English in the name!
Saying that, some of the other potential names they presented to test groups are even worse! RTL Belle?! RTL Lila (purple)?!

MTV (in the US) has unveiled a new identity and a slightly altered new logo. The main 3D logo is still in use, now in colour of the old MTV logo from 1981 with the contrast a little high, and the new 2D logo used in other mediums such as show logos, sub-brands and cable listings. As well as a new font, ditching the "Helvetica" font MTV has used for ages.

https://vimeo.com/604007447

This is honestly quite smooth and quite a refresh to what MTV had been using, now with a wide variety of blue, red and yellow and abandoning the rash yellow MTV's International feeds have been constantly using nowadays as the main colour. This seems to modernise MTV into a new streaming age, and it's pretty well done being it's from Loyalkaspar. Was unveiled during the VMAs but was slowly being introduced on MTV's social media feeds by the start of 2021 or so. I'd argue MTV still plays music, but not on their regular cable network anymore and more on their social media platforms and sub-brands.

I must say I’m surprised they’re not changing N-TVs name to RTL NEWS. Wouldn’t that make more sense? Is N-TV really such a strong brand in Germany?

It is the oldest of the German news channels, and it is very strong in audience reception; for example, it is the second most-watched news channel in that country (after Welt, and not counting the specialist news channels, like ZDFinfo or Phoenix), and it is the second most clicked news portal, after Bild's portal. No sense to change the name when the brand is very much known by Germans. Additionally, changing the name to RTL News would lead to viewer confusion with the similarly-named short bulletins aired by RTL mostly on weekends and public holidays, and ntv doesn't really share much programming with RTL, only during elections or breaking news, for example. Additionally, story selection is different: ntv focuses on hard news, whilst RTL is more tabloid.

Yes, any RTL operation outside of Germany is expected to get the new logo
