The celebrations are different this year than in previous years, and there isn't really a large public event as there was ten years ago. Last time there was the carriage procession which ITV covered on the Tuesday, but that was the only day that weekend they were on air and they didn't cover the concert or the river pageant (dodging a bullet there, perhaps).

This time round, Trooping the Colour is something ITV have never covered, or at least not for many, many years. The concert is obviously exclusively on the Beeb as it's been made for television, and the Platinum Pageant fills the same role as the river pageant in 2012. So that leaves the service and unlike last time there isn't a carriage procession and a day of events alongside it, everything is done and dusted by lunchtime, so it hardly seems worth ITV getting a presentation team together for that alone. There's the beacons too, but they probably thought Emmerdale, Corrie and Britain's Got Talent were a bigger draw, probably.

Of course, they did show the event at Windsor the other week, and they're also showing the Derby which is part of the weekend celebrations with Royals in attendance. So they are playing a part in it, without needlessly duplicating the Beeb.

Looking back at 2002, again ITV didn't show the two concerts. ITV were a bit stuck that year, mind, as it was the during the World Cup and on the day itself they had a match with a 10am kick-off so their coverage began on ITV2 and moved over to ITV1 after twelve, by which point the Beeb had been on for several hours and so nobody switched over. They also showed the fireworks after the concert, but the concert overran so they was a lot of filling required. However we did have Trevor McDonald welcoming viewers to "this World Cup and Jubilee Bank Holiday", which was a highlight.

And in 1977, ITV planned to cover all of it but couldn't because there was a strike at Thames so the Beeb had it all to themselves, like in 1953.

What has been the most off-putting in the media is statements such as "The whole of the United Kingdom is celebrating . . .", which clearly they are not and you start drifting into the realms of propaganda, which is not a nice scenario.

The majority of people are simply enjoying the time off work to do things they enjoy.

There’s a very high backed chair that’s currently been in use in the studio the past few days.

It’s dwarfing some of the presenters small in stature, like Faye Barker yesterday.

Looks more like a throne. Not a great look.

Robert Moore was speaking to David McCullagh on the RTÉ Six-One News this evening. Robert was being interviewed from the outside the White House to give his assessment of the committee hearings on the innsurection which took place on January 6th 2021.

Has any weather OB since the hour long format started been north of Watford Gap?

They probably need to sort this, and maybe sometimes use northern based forecasters if Alex can’t travel to Scarborough, Blackpool or even Scotland over the summer

Bit of a mess up with the weather tonight, shame poor old Alex down in Weston Supermare trying to do a live link to the weather and it failed, then only to be told we we gonna get the weather from Alex I’m guessing that’s pre recorded anyway but even still Becky popped up stead so must of had a back up prerecorded weather forecast, was funny though ?

As it was a Friday I suspect Becky had already done the forecast for Scotland, NI just before 7pm so one pre-recorded?

RE: ITV News: March 2022 onwards - XIII - 10-07-2022

Another bit of ITV News and LBC crossover today and yesterday with Paul Brand doing the afternoon show. I assume because of his ITV commitments, it's only covering but still a good gig.
