ESPN U.K. did do it in union incidentally, for Premiership Rugby. They had an odd bottom scorebar which changed shape. It lasted for the entire time ESPN covered PRL and only changed to the more conventional method when BT took over.

That looks horrific if true, but I’ll reserve judgement till it’s up on screen. NBC could do with thinking about getting rid of at least one of the at least three different graphics packages they use, mind you. They have one package for NFL (debuted at Super Bowl LII) one for golf (which technically belongs to Golf Channel I guess), and one for basically everything else (debuted I think in 2015 - though they didn’t bother to wait for the Super Bowl and debuted it at the Wild Card round instead - and now very long in the tooth as far as US sports graphics is concerned).

I always used to find it interesting that on Sky Sports coverage the clock counts up for home viewers, but counts down on the feed they supply to big screens in stadia.

Only one person with Miles Harrison, for ITV, in the commentary box for France v Ireland today in the 6 nations. David Flatman tested positive, and so misses this game, and presenting the premiership highlights tomorrow as well. Not sure if Topsy Ojo will present solo, or if Hugh Woosencroft, who done the live premiership game for ITV, will substitute.

I think it’s always been the case though, that US graphics have always been larger and louder than in Europe. The existing NBC scorebar isn’t exactly tiny either. Fox had a smaller one for a while in the mid 2010s. CBS’ new graphics introduced last year are of a similar size as the ones they replaced.

Nick Mullins is booked to be the lead commentator for ITV tomorrow, I think Flats was meant to be in the studio in London, as he would be needed to do the Premiership highlights.

Also see BBC1 is networking Six Nations Sin Bin. Last week they slotted it on Friday night when they needed half an hour filler before the Winter Olympics, but tonight they're repeating a preview of the Wales v Scotland game hours after the game has taken place, which seems a bit pointless.
