EDIT: I forgot to mention this but RTÉ Studio 5 has a new table with the 6 Nations logo moulded into it. I just looked at it with a camera angle that was above the table itself. I honestly didn't see it before but it looks really nice. It's coloured in black & white on the table if you try and see it.

It actually is really nice - shows you what the potential of that studio set up is, if RTE ever put some effort into it instead of the generic backdrops they tend to prefer.

Edit: to be fair to them, they’re also using a nice animated backdrop from the GAA League Sunday at the moment.

I find this a bit hard to believe - Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea and Spurs are all still in it, and they've all been kept apart in the draw, and it seems quite probable that seven of the eight teams in the sixth round will be from the Premier League. Doesn't look any different to most seasons, to be honest. And the fifth round is all in primetime as well.

And it is literally pot luck as to how the draw will go, but they knew that when they bought the rights.

Two all premier league ties, and one tie featuring two teams outside the Premier league. Think it's fair to say that it's interesting!

RTÉ has included their new titles for the Six Nations coverage into Against The Head on RTÉ2. It remains to be seen if they are using these new graphics just for the Six Nations only. Everything else from Against The Head's presentation is exactly same as before.

They changed the music that they play to tell us what’s coming up on the show.

Disappointed that there’s no place for “Fighting 17th” in the coverage any more, it’s iconically associated with RTE rugby and the Six Nations in particular but I guess the McGuirk/Hook/Pope/O’Shea/Nugent era is one they want to put well in the rear view mirror now (and it’s a good few years now since that line up was there in its original form) and changing the branding is one way of doing that. (And how many people thought it was an off-tune soundalike of Ireland’s Call?)

Anyway, Super Bowl Sunday this week and I’m not sure if it’s a first but Sky are airing the first four hours of the ridiculously long (but typical for the Super Bowl, I’m afraid) 5 1/2 hour long NBC pre-game Show from the Football Night in America crew, on both SS NFL and SS Mix. Also, NFL Game Pass are again offering their 99c (presume this is 99p Sterling)deal for anyone who feels like legally watching the full unadulterated NBC broadcast, adverts and all.

Being in Northern Ireland I had a choice of ITV/RTE and watched on RTE for the Ireland match and thought RTE coverage was excellent, far better than the Hook/Pope/O'Shea era where only Conor O'Shea came across well (nothing again ITV, just wanted to see the return of RTE coverage). As you said that panel left in 2015 firstly with McGurk & Hook retiring after 2015 Six Nations and O'Shea being appointed Italy coach and while they added in the likes of O'Gara and Horgan in 2016/17 they went to Virgin/TV3 (whose coverage is also excellent).

Hugh Cahill & Donal Lenihan were also excellent on commentary and Heaslip & Ferris are 2 very good pundits and have been impressed by Jacqui Hurley over the weekend and on the URC

Only thing as you said wasn't impressed by RTE titles our lack of fighting 17th but overall excellent return for RTE. Also refreshing that as part of the rights deal that both broadcasters are acknowledging each other, Jacqui Hurley saying you can watch Scotland v England on Virgin Media One and Joe Molloy saying you can watch France v Italy tomorrow on RTE or watch highlights with us at 7pm on Virgin Media Two.

As much as I like Adam Hills seems a bit questionable having someone who plays for a club presenting coverage of that club.

They're only showing ten games. Maybe they'll just never pick Warrington? Also, he plays for the Physical Disabilities team, not the Super League team.

They're in the first match.

I think that's clutching at straws to be honest. Can't imagine he's an employee of the club and his loyalty to Warrington surely won't be any more so than Gary Lineker's to Leicester City. It's hardly up there with sitting MPs presenting slots on a News channel. I think it's a fairly inspired choice. Someone who's got profile who knows the sport inside out and who'll will possibly bring others in that might not be regular Rugby League fans.

With that promo photo, as long as they can photoshop in a tea pot instead of the trophy at least they'll have something they can reuse if he ever becomes host of Countdown!

The Sport Thread - Brekkie - 08-02-2022

Fair point.

No word on commentary for E4's coverage of Chelsea tomorrow - guessing they might just take the World Feed. James Richardson making a return to C4 though to present coverage according to ICDB.

The Sport Thread - Jon - 08-02-2022

I think that technically makes him longest serving (mens) lead football presenter for any channel.

Anyone know whose graphics these are? The TV graphics I mean. I just think they're really smart.

For this Sunday's Super Bowl, with Sky Sports showing the NBC feed, I assume BBC One will show the world feed. With that in mind, I can tell you Kevin Burkhardt of FOX Sports will have the call with Charles Davis, former partner of KB, now at CBS Sports, based on his response to a tweet question from one of my fellow 506ers on the 506 Sports forum, @bigdan11 from West Texas....
