Meanwhile, we discover that CBS has offered Brian Williams the CBS Evening News hosting gig and he declined. :oops:
I guess they want to dump Norah now that once again, a new anchor has failed to move them up from that third place in the ratings. It's ridiculous how they keep on changing anchors every 2 years thinking something would change. Plus, this time they had the big DC move and a female face so you would think they were going for stability and long term plans. But now, they were willing to trade it all for someone whose reputation is still tarnished.

Very interesting. As the article mentions, this says a lot about how much has changed since Brian Williams had to leave the Nightly News. His move to MSNBC turned out to be a huge success and, now he's left NBC, he's in demand again.
Back at CBS News, the changes to the streaming service seem to be mostly cosmetic from what I've seen over the past couple of days. It definitely feels like a rebrand more than anything bigger behind the scenes - the amount of live output seems the same as what CBSN had, although there are a few new weekly programmes in prime time. Breaking news (mainly press conferences) crashes in and out in the same way it used to, just like it does on NBC News Now.
Presentation-wise, though, it's head and shoulders above what CBSN was like. A really fresh and modern look and feel.

WFAA 8 (ABC) in Dallas is back at their Young Street HQ after vacating their Victory Park. After doing their newscasts in a temporary set-up in the newsroom, they are about to move to a new (sort-of) set in the biggest studio on that complex. They are actually reusing most of the design used at Victory Park, which was designed by Joe Lamberta (when still was designer at Jack Morton PDG, creator of the Tegna set-in-a-box, and now working in its own company, which continues doing these sets). Looks quite cheap, indeed, but the space is much better used. The set debuts Tuesday night during the 6pm newscast.

CBS need to give an anchor time. Peter Jennings, Dan Rather and so on didn't become big overnight stars did they. People should be watching the news, for the news.

CBS News just needs to accept their evening news cast is going to be 3rd place , someone has to be 3rd place out of 3. Their idea of changing anchors every 2 years or less is not a good idea either. I think Norah is fine, I though Jeff Glor was good, Scott Pelly and the interim time when Anthony Mason did it was good too. I'd rather they focus on their content, do good news stories, stop copying ABC and NBC with calling everything "Breaking News" and just be consistent.

Fox Weather will be simulcast on FBN for their severe weather coverage, giving the fledgling online channel a linear outlet for the first time. AdWeek is also reporting that Fox News will simulcast Fox Weather from 5-6am ET.

ABC7 Los Angeles launched its 24/7 stream with a new weekday newscast, Eyewitness News at 7:00 a.m. with the ABC7 morning team of Leslie Sykes, Brandi Hitt, Leslie Lopez and Brianna Ruffalo covering weather, breaking and local news live. Viewers can stream exclusive premium content, hyperlocal reporting from community journalists and Hollywood content through the award-winning entertainment brand, “On The Red Carpet.”
ABC7 Chicago launched its 24/7 streaming with two new, original weekday newscasts available to stream. ABC7’s Tanja Babich, Terrell Brown and Val Warner anchor a new 7:00 a.m. newscast along with Roz Varon and Tracy Butler. Cheryl Burton and Rob Elgas will anchor a new 7:00 p.m. newscast. ABC7 Chicago will also debut “STOLEN: The Unsolved Theft of a $3,000,000 Violin,” a true-crime documentary exclusively on the 24/7 stream starting Wednesday, Feb. 2.
6ABC Philadelphia launched its 24/7 stream with a new weekday newscast hour that begins streaming at 7:00 a.m. and includes the premiere of “The Rush,” a segment anchored by Action News’ Matt O’Donnell, Tamala Edwards and meteorologist Karen Rogers. At 7:30 a.m., viewers can stream “Brighter News,” a lighter news format with feel-good stories that give viewers a sunny outlook on the day ahead.

When I checked out the New York stream yesterday afternoon (NY time), it was just a weather graphic and some live shots of the city, with a QR code to scan to get the headlines on your phone. Just now they were showing an archive bulletin from 1996 - interesting for fans of historic presentation, I guess, but not exactly the latest news.
I caught the end of the new live 7am hour on the San Francisco stream - there seemed to be quite a bit of padding going on, with the presenters chatting among themselves.
It feels a bit like they launched these channels because CBS and NBC have got them. But clearly there's the potential to build on what they've got at the moment.

They arent meant to be rolling news channels in the conventional sense. WABC seemingly only added an additional 6:30 newscast. Its mostly just replays. WIth those other non-news programs. But with the amount of breaking news that occurs in the major cities. These channels will be used for rolling coverage.

I'm not a massive fan. All the panels give it quite a cheap, flat-pack feel in my view, and I'm not sure the height or the massive staircase add anything particularly positive.
